The influence of psychological factors on the immune system.

It is postulated that psychological factors such as emotions, stress, life experiences, etc. can produce an abnormality in immune function through mediation of the neuroendocrine system, and in the final analysis, exert control over the immune system. Studies reported in the literature are used for documentation and illustrative purposes. Further research dealing with an identification of psychological factors which lower and increase susceptibility to disease is advised.

Biochemical individuality: a conceptual framework for multiple sclerosis.

This article examines some of the confusion and controversy in the field of multiple sclerosis which is attributed to the apparent lack of a basic conceptual framework for understanding the illness. The relevance and value of the concept of biochemical individuality and the genotrophic principle as a basic conceptual framework are discussed.

Blindness and schizophrenia.

The implications of both blindness and schizophrenia are discussed with regard to the etiology and treatment of schizophrenia. The ward charts of hospitalized patients in a section for the blind of a state psychiatric hospital were examined to determine if there were any patients who were both blind and had schizophrenia. It was found that none of the patients diagnosed as schizophrenic was totally blind on admission. Two patients diagnosed as schizophrenic were partially blind due to loss of the left eye sustained in a fight and iritis of the right eye respectively.

Toward establishing scientific credibility in acupuncture research.

While the effectiveness of acupuncture has been established clinically, research methods and tools which are basic for establishing objective scientific credibility in medicine have been a problem in acupuncture research. Research methods developed in other areas and reported in the literature are presented which could, if applied to acupuncture research, contribute toward establishing scientific credibility in medicine.
