A case of ureteral herniation into the inguinal canal is reported in a 6 week old boy with a solitary functioning kidney.
Two infants with trisomy involving chromosome 9 are described. One had complete trisomy 9 and the other karyotype 47,XX,+der(9),t(7;9) (p22;q32)mat. A trisomy 9 syndrome is delineated, consisting of features of the trisomy 9p syndrome and various other malformations. These include abnormalities of the cardiovascular and urogenital systems, cranial suture anomalies, dislocation of the hips and knees and early death. A possible relationship of some of these findings to regions of 9q involved in cases of partial trisomy 9 is suggested.

Sternal changes following mediastinal irradiation are described in 78 children with Hodgkin's disease. Incidence and severity of changes are correlated with total sternal dose. Megavoltage irradiation, with a nearly equal absorbed dose ratio between bone and soft tissue, and improved depth dose characteristics, has markedly decreased the incidence and severity of bone changes. No moderate or severe changes developed following megavoltage techniques, in contrast to orthovoltage therapy.
In conclusion, preparing for death is a developmental task. Whether faced with acute illness or old age, the inevitability of death comprises part of the mental life of all of us. As with all other developmental tasks, the quality of mastery depends on mastery of earlier developmental tasks and the related adaptive capacities of the ego. Mrs. F. had the good fortune of family support, concrete help in the household, and casework treatment that many of the aged do not have. However, past experiences, coupled with an ability to work out problems and to utilize available external resources, helped her to work through feelings about her own impending death.

The relationship of respiration and growth of seed, pericarp tissue and whole fruit of snap beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was studied. The whole fruit exhibited an apparent climacteric type of respiration pattern. This pattern resulted from an increase in CO(2) production by the enlarging seed followed by a rapid decrease in CO(2) evolution by the pericarp tissue, and the pattern was not associated with any concomitant increase in ethylene production. Therefore, the apparent climacteric respiration pattern of a developing bean fruit is not comparable to the phenomenon that occurs in other ripening fruits.

The incidence of physeal injuries in nearly 2,000 bony injuries was 18%. They were commoner in adolescents and specifically more frequent in the upper limbs. The incidence of growth arrest was just over 1%, whereas the incidence of serious complication was less than 1%. The prognosis depends more on the site than the Salter-Harris classification. The proximal tibia is a common site for growth disturbance.
