[Main carotenoids in pressed seeds (Cucurbitae semen) of oil pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo convar. pepo var. styriaca)].

Various use of the oil-pumpkin offers reason for the phytochemical analysis of seed-meal's carotene pigments. Column chromatography was performed on the adsorbents MgO, Celite and CaCO3 with hexane and benzene as eluents. HPLC separation of different pigments was carried out on a 6 microns reverse phase packing with a ternary gradient elution method using a diode-array detector. The main components of the press-residue were lutein [3,3'-dihydroxy-alpha-carotene = (3R,3'R,6'R)-beta,epsilon-carotene-3,3'-diol; 52.5%] and beta-carotene (beta,epsilon-carotene; 10.1%). In addition to the above-mentioned pigments it was successful to reveal the presence of violaxanthin, luteoxanthin, auroxanthin epimers, lutein epoxide, flavoxanthin, chrysanthemaxanthin, 9(9')-cis-lutein, 13(13')-cis-lutein, 15-cis-lutein (central-cis)-lutein, alpha-cryptoxanthin, beta-cryptoxanthin and alpha-carotene (beta,epsilon-carotene) in small quantities.

Eosinophilic spleen colonies are produced in rat-marrow-transplanted but not in murine-marrow-transplanted mice.

Differential counts of about 5000 splenic clusters and colonies developing in whole-body-irradiated mice and rats were made, using semi-serial histological sections prepared 9 to 12 d after transplantation with bone marrow haemopoietic cells. The investigated mouse and rat spleens were from syngeneically, allogeneically, or xenogeneically transplanted recipients. Splenic eosinophil clusters were always found when rat eosinophil-producing progenitors were present in the inoculum, whereas murine inocula failed to produce splenic eosinophilic clusters even in the syngeneic mouse. The limiting factor in the production of splenic eosinophilic clusters was the appropriate donor progenitor/committed stem cell itself. Changes in the percentages of eosinophil clusters with the number of injected cells and with increased doses of irradiation, as well as formation of rat eosinophil colonies in mice, as against mainly clusters in rats, themselves show that regulatory mechanisms of the recipients also play a role. These regulatory mechanisms cannot be attributed to the splenic microenvironment.

Diagnosis of malignant tumors on the basis of the current generating capacity of malignant tumorous tissue. II. Study of the malignant tumors of female genital organs.

Description of an electrochemical measuring method for the in vivo quick-diagnosis of malignant tumors and dysplastic alterations of the cervical epithelium is given. The measuring results carried out in 660 cases on the surface of the cervical epithelium are reported. The current generating capacity of planocellular carcinoma of the cervical epithelium exceeds the upper limit of the normal value with 40% and is significantly higher than the values measured in dysplastic areas. With the aid of measuring, dysplastic alteration are demonstrable even in cases, in which the cytologic or coloposcopic examination is not indicative of dysplasia. Measurings in the benign and malignant tumorous tissue were carried out with needle electrode in 41 cases, during operation. The current generating capacity of malignant tumors exceeded with 150--170% the values measured in the healthy tissue, respectively in benign tumorous alterations.
