Heteronuclear chains of four metal atoms including one quadruply bonded dimetal unit. Dichromium and dimolybdenum compounds with appended copper(I) atoms.

It is shown that the M2(DPhIP)4 molecules (M = Cr, Mo; HDPhIP = 2,6-di(phenylimino)piperidine) can each capture two CuI atoms to form molecules with linear Cu...M[symbol: see text] M...Cu chains. In these chains the CuI atoms have only weak interactions with the M atoms (Cr...Cu = 2.628 A; Mo...Cu = 2.615 A) even though their introduction causes marked decreases in the M[symbol: see text]M distances (from 2.265 to 1.906 A for Cr and from 2.114 to 2.078 A for Mo). These seemingly contradictory facts are explained by noting that in the M2(DPhIP)4 molecules there are strong destabilizing (to the M[symbol: see text]M bonds) donor interactions of the dangling nitrogen atoms with the pi* orbitals. When these are eliminated by the introduction of the CuI atoms, the M[symbol: see text]M bonds become stronger and shorter.

Brain abscess due to Petriellidium boydii.

A 22 year-old man died from multiple cerebral abscesses due to Petriellidium boydii 4 1/2 months after an episode of near drowning. The autopsy showed dissemination to heart and kidney. This patient had no immunocompromising disease but was treated with corticosteroids. The treatment of this condition with ventricular shunting and amphotericin B is discussed and compared with the experience of ten other cases reported in the literature.

[Unusual migraines].

From 123 hospital charts with a diagnosis of migraine, seen between the years 1974 and 1978, ten cases have been selected of complicated migraine and three cases of migraine with special features. A review, and a discussion of the clinical characteristics, and of the treatment of these unusual migraines has been made. The three cases with special features include migraine in association with hyperlipidemia, with Raynaud's disease and with meningioma.

[Criteria of the diagnosis and treatment of carotid atheromatosis].

This retrospective study concerning 102 patients was undertaken to study the therapeutic decisions in these patients when they presented with symptoms of cerebral vascular insufficiency, mostly from the territory of the carotid artery, either transient or accompanied by a deficit. The current literature on the subject is also mentioned. The clinical outcome with regard to the quality of life, seems to have been better in patients who were subjected to carotid endarterectomies than in those who received medical treatment.
