[Ultrastructure of blood lymphocytes in dairy cows with chronic lymphocytic leukemia].

The morphology of blood lymphocytes was studied ultrastructurally in cows with chronical lymphocytic leucosis (CLL) and in healthy controls. A significantly higher occurrence of the so-called nuclear pockets in the leucaemic lymphocytes was found (13.8% v. 0.83% in healthy animals). The surfaces of lymphocytes were stained with ruthenium red; this showed the possibility of differentiating two distinct populations of lymphocytes in peripheral blood. In this way, a prevalence of B-lymphocytes, constituting 89.7% of all lymphocytes, was demonstrated in animals suffering from CLL.

[Development of morphological changes after experimental Mycobacterium avium infection in ducks and geese].

Ducks and geese were experimentally infected with the Mycobacterium avium. It was demonstrated that intramuscular and peroral infection causes morphological tuberculous changes. The first microscopically detectable changes induced by intramuscular infection occurred within 12 days. After 70 days from infection the affected organs were densely covered with tuberculous lesions. The development of microscopic changes is continuous and the development of affections is accompanied by an increase in the number of mycobacteria detectable in the sections. In ducks this trend is more pronounced than in geese. In both methods of infection liver and spleen are the first and the most frequent organs to be affected.

Comparison of radioimmunoassay for internal protein of bovine leukemia virus with neutralization test employing VSV-BLV pseudotype.

Two methods for the detection of antibodies to the bovine leukemia virus (BLV) in infected animals were compared for their suitability for the early diagnosis of bovine leukemia - pseudotype neutralization test (PNT) employing vesicular stomatitis virus - bovine leukemia virus pseudotypes (VSV-BLV), and radioimmunoassay test (RIA) for major internal viral protein p24 of the BLV. The comparison was made using more than 300 sera from cows of the herds with high incidence of bovine leukemia. In infected animals the presence of antibodies against virus envelope glycoprotein detected by PNT and antibodies against major structural viral protein p24 detected by RIA were found always coincidentally. Both methods were found highly comparable and suitable for early detection of bovine leukemia virus infected animals.

A rapid neutralization test for antibodies to bovine leukemia virus, with the use of rhabdovirus pseudotypes.

Two rhabdoviruses, vesicular stomatitis (type Indiana) and Chandipura viruses, formed pseudotype particles with envelope antigens provided by bovine leukemia virus (BLV). The pseudotypes are infectious for calf, human, mink, and rat cells, but the most sensitive indicator proved to be the Vero cells. Infectivity of the pseudotypes was increased by DEAE-dextran present during adsorption. Sera of spontaneously infected cattle contained high titers (some over 1/10,000) of antibodies neutralizing the pseudotypes, whereas sera of cattle from uninfected herds possessed no neutralizing activity in 1/10 dilution. The neutralization of these pseudotypes can serve as a rapid and sensitive test for the detection of antibodies in the cattle infected with BLV.

Pseudotype particles of vesicular stomatitis virus with surface antigens of bovine leukaemia virus--VSV (BLV) -- as a sensitive probe for detecting antibodies in the sera of spontaneously infected cattle.

Phenotypically mixed particles containing the genome of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and envelope antigen corresponding to bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) -- the VSV (BLV) pseudotypes -- can be employed as a rapid, specific and sensitive probe for detecting BLV-neutralizing antibodies in bovine sera.

[Benign lymphoepithelial lesion of the salivary glands].

A series of eight observations serves for demonstrating the clinico-pathological picture of the benign lymphoepithelial lesion of salivary glands. The glandular lesion was associated with joint symptoms, one of the female patients developed malignant lymphoma.
