[Leukocytolysis and phagocytosis under hyperosmotic conditions].

PAN and leukocytolysis were measured in dog blood placed in hypo- and hypertonic solutions of glycerin and glucose (1:10). It was found that leukocytolytic activity of the substances depends on equimolar concentrations of nonelectrolytes. It is more pronounced in hypo- than in hypertonic conditions. Glycerin is 3-5-times more active than glucose. In concentrations 2.0 M for glycerin and 0.5 M for glucose leukocytolysis is less active. Mononuclears are more resistant than neutrophils in strong solutions. PAN increased by 11-16% in hypotonic solutions. Strong glycerin solutions reduce PAN less than glucose which stimulates the digestive activity. The results can be of use in specific leukolysis tests to diagnose drug allergy.

[Hypoxemia, acid-base balance shifts and blood system reactions in adaptation mechanisms].

Experiments were carried out on nonanesthetized and anesthetized dogs with open chest. Intravenous norepinephrine infusion (0.1 microgram/kg body weight/min during 25 minutes) simulated physiological stimulation of sympathetic nervous system. In all the cases it was associated with a significant arterial oxygen tension reduction that could be considered as a reaction with an antioxidant trend. At the same time the acid--base balance parameters shift directed to metabolic acidosis was seen that correlated with the hypoxemia significance. Recorded blood picture changes--hemoglobin and hematocrit increase as well as blood sedimentation rate lowering--improved both oxygen transport and utilization.

[Acid-base equilibrium of the blood during treatment using plasma UV-irradiation of chronic diseases of the liver and bile ducts with cholestasis].

Donor plasma irradiated by ultraviolet rays was administered intravenously to patients with choledocholithiasis, chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. Parameters of the acid-base balance of arterialized capillary blood shifted to alkalosis, were normalized, and tension of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the blood increased to physiological values. Dynamic changes of the biochemical parameters demonstrated alleviation of manifestations of the cholestasis syndrome.

[Changes in the blood system after its extracorporeal irradiation].

One-stage extracorporeal beta-radiation of dog blood in a dose of 6-12 Gy is not followed by the development of radiation after-effects. Favourable changes in the peripheral blood content are marked. Erythrocyte carbohydrates undergo adaptation reconstruction with an increase in the percentage of nucleic acids. Over 7 to 30 days of observation the activity of nonspecific immunity factors such as lysozyme, lytic activity of beta-lysines, and phagocytosis also increases. At the same time the antimicrobial action of penicillin is potentiated. The data obtained can be used for correction of upset immune responsiveness.

Adrenoreactivity of the circulatory system and of some metabolic processes induced by narcosis and surgical trauma.

Adrenal reactivity of the circulation and of several metabolic and regulatory systems, which had been induced by narcosis and surgical trauma, was studied on 50 mongrel dogs. Operative trauma (thoracotomy) done under thiopental sodium narcosis was accompanied with the moderately elevated adrenal reactivity of the circulation and essentially unchanged metabolic processes. Changes in the cardiac contractility and pump function induced by catecholamines are mediated through cardiac and vascular beta-adrenergic mechanism. These metabolic changes are determined by the state of adrenergic mechanisms. At the same time there is no distinct correlation between these changes and beta-adrenoreceptor state.

The role of catecholamines in myoglobin content increase in the myocardium.

The mechanism of myoglobin content increase in the myocardium was investigated in experiments carried out in 33 mongrel dogs, weight 18-25 kg, divided into three groups: 1 -- with acute ischaemic myocardial infarction; 2 -- animals with mitral insufficiency, which were followed up for 6 to 12 month; 3 -- dogs which were over a protracted period given i.v. infusions of noradrenaline (2.3 micrograms/kg body weight/min). The amount of myoglobin in tissue samples was determined by spectrophotometry. In the 2nd and 3rd groups, there was a tendency towards an increase in myoglobin content in the left ventricle and a marked increase in the right ventricle; in the 1st group, an increase occurred predominantly in the right ventricle. In the same groups, the metabolism of catecholamines and their precursors was also investigated; it was found that the catecholamine synthesis was increased. The author advances the hypothesis that increased catecholamines secretion is one of the causes of the increase in myoglobin concentration in the heart muscle.

[Myoglobin concentration and the state of myocardial organelles following myocardial infarction].

A study was made of the quantitative changes in myoglobin and the subcellular organization of the myocardium at early periods of experimental infarction of the heart in dogs. There proved to be a correlative relationship between the myoglobin content and the state of subcellular organization of the cardiomyocytes in the ischemic area and the so-called intact portions of the right and the left ventricles.
