[Spindle-cell thymoma (a histological and electron microscopic study)].

The paper describes 12 cases of spindle cell thymoma without myasthenia or any other syndromes such as hypogammaglobulinemia, hypoplasia of the red sprout of the bone marrow. In most patients the tumours were detected roentgenologically. Microscopic diagnosis of spindle cell thymoma is based on the detection in it of epithelial cell structures. In those cases where the tumours were represented by spindle cells alone, verification of the tumor was possible only by electron microscopic studies (the presence in the cells of tonofilaments, desmosomes and basal membrane).

[Atypical adenomatous hyperplasia of the lung].

Clinicomorphological analysis was performed in 12 cases of atypical adenomatous hyperplasia of the lung (AAH). This is the proliferative lesion consisting of atypical epithelial cells along the alveolar septa which are found incidentally during pathologic examination of the lung resected because of cancer. We studied morphological and biological characteristics of AAH cells including cytodifferentiation, proliferative activity, tumor-suppressor genes. Our review of the studies of AAH revealed that AAH is alveolar intraepithelial dysplasia and a precursor of lung adenocarcinoma. AAH is an important lesion corresponding to a step in carcinogenesis for peripheral lung adenocarcinomas.

Adenocarcinoma↗

[Endovascular papillary angioendothelioma].

One case of a rare vascular tumor which occurs mainly in the childhood is presented. The tumor has a tendency to recurrence and metastases into the regional lymph nodes in spite of a relatively mature structure.

Hemangioendothelioma↗

[Intracranial cylindroma (cylindromatous epithelioma)].

A case with intracranial cylindroma is reported. Intracranial cylindroma possesses local destructive growth and may recur repeatedly and produce metastases; it is localized on the base of the skull in the chiasmal area or, more frequently, in the region of the trigeminal ganglion. Cylindroma of chiasmal localization develops from ectopic mucous glands of the nose or nasal sinuses, whereas cylindroma of the trigeminal ganglion arises from the glandular epithelium of the auditory tube. Intracranial cylindroma is sensitive to radiation therapy. In the case discussed, the cylindroma was localized in the chiasmal area.

Adenoma, Chromophobe↗

[Osteochondroplastic tracheobronchopathy].

14 cases of osteochondroplastic tracheobronchopathy (OT) are studied histologically. The disease is characterized by formation of cartilage and bone tissue in the submucosa of the trachea and bronchi outside their own cartilagenous carcass. Its histogenesis is not clear and is attributed to chronic bronchitis, specific inflammation, dysembryogenetic alterations, endocrine disorders, environmental and occupational hazards, amyloidosis of the trachea. The process is localized in the trachea and bronchi as an isolated and rarely as a diffuse lesion. Morphologically, normal or atrophic mucous membrane is observed, at some places with a squamous metaplasia. Areas of cartilage with calcium deposits and foci of bone having a trabecular structure with formation of spongious bone tissue, sometimes with bone marrow, were found.

Adult↗

[Carcinoid of the kidney].

Rare location of carcinoid tumour in the kidney is reported. The diagnosis was established on the basis of histological and ultrastructural investigation.

Carcinoid Tumor↗

[Carcinoid tumors of the lung].

Detailed cytological, histological and electron microscopic characteristics of pulmonary carcinoid tumors are listed on the basis of surgical clinic material. Various variants of the carcinoid tumors structure, their differential diagnosis are presented.
