[Polychemotherapy in non-hodgkin lymphoma with a modified MOPP scheme (author's transl)].

64 patients with extensive non-Hodgkin lymphomas were treated with a modified MOPP scheme. 41 patients had stage IV disease. 59 patients responded to treatment. In 22 cases complete remission was obtained and in 37 cases partial remission. The proportion of complete remissions was the same for reticulosarcoma (9 out of 28) and lymphosarcoma (7 out of 22). The remission rate for Brill-Symmers disease was higher (6 out of 14). For patients with lymphosarcoma the average duration of complete remission was 26.9 months and for patients with reticulosarcoma 25 months. 42 of the 59 patients who responded to treatment survived one year, 33 of them two or more years. After a two-year period there were no more deaths.

[Tissue specific inhibition of lymphocyte proliferation by spleen extract (lymphocyte chalone) (author's transl)].

Aqueous spleen extracts were purified using acetone precipitation, membrane filtration, affinity chromatography, and dialysis. These extracts were able to inhibit thymidine incorporation into lymphoid cells (MKT-CH and PHA-stimulated lymphocyte cultures). They did not influence non lymphoid tissue (melanoma cells Mel Ei 78 and Ehrlich ascites cells). The inhibition was reversible and the purified extracts were not cytotoxic. The extracts correspond to a chalone. Their importance for prevention of graft versus host reaction and for treatment of lymphoproliferative diseases is discussed.

[Hairy cell leukaemia. I. Clinical features, cytochemistry, phagocytosis, establishment of permanent growing cell lines (author's transl)].

In seven patients the diagnosis of hair cell leukaemia (leukaemic reticuloendotheliosis) was confirmed cytochemically and histologically. Splenectomy, in six patients, apparently favourably influenced the course. Isoenzyme 5 of the acid phosphatase was demonstrated in the hairy cells of all patients. Reaction of alpha-naphthylacetate esterase was moderately positive in the hairy cells. Phagocytosis of latex and India-ink particles was demonstrated especially in tartrate-resistant cells of one patient. In two patients eight permanently growing cell lines were demonstrated from leucocytes and defined cytochemically. Capacity for phagocytosis of hairy cells and positive reaction of alpha-naphthylacetate esterase in the hairy cells suggest properties of monocytes. But it is not possible definitively to classify the hairy cells among B-cells or monocytes.
