A case of chondrosarcoma originating within the postethmoidal and sphenoidal sinuses with intracranial invasion will be reported. The patient, a 54-year-old female, presented severe headaches and diminished visual acuity of the right eye. Angiographic findings showed both the left carotid artery to be completely occluded and the right inner carotid artery to be narrowed at the site of the carotid bifurcation. Computerized tomography scan findings showed a tumor, located mainly in the frontal base and temporal fossa, that had invaded the cranium through the skull base. Several tumor excisions were performed using a combined extranasal and transmaxillary approach. The diagnosis 'chondroma' was changed to 'chondrosarcoma' during autopsy.

We studied the pathological findings in 28 small hepatocellular carcinomas (less than 5 cm in diameter), especially the mode of invasion. Seventeen of the 28 lesions were encapsulated. Capsular invasion was present in 14 of the 17 encapsulated tumours. Vascular invasion was found in 12 of the 28 tumours. The small hepatocellular carcinoma, even when encapsulated, frequently invaded blood vessels and adjacent liver tissue, in spite of frequent vascular invasion, distant metastasis was seen in only 1 of the 28 tumours.

A multidisciplinary treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma including preoperative chemo-embolization with resection treatment was introduced. Recent attempts at combining lipiodol with chemo-embolization have been quite promising. An ideal multidisciplinary treatment should include an effective device using the transportal approach.

A case of diffuse tracheobronchial amyloidosis in a 70-year-old woman thought clinically at first to have lung carcinoma is reported. Bronchoscopic biopsy was necessary to make a diagnosis. Amyloid was deposited markedly in the subepithelial layer. After Congo-red staining amyloid showed the usual apple-green birefringence under polarizing microscope. Electron microscopic study disclosed typical amyloid fibrillar structure. Amyloid protein of this patient was confirmed to be AL protein by immunoperoxidase study which showed specific staining by the anti-A lambda antiserum. When potassium permanganate reaction was used amyloid protein of this patient resisted to the reaction. We reviewed 19 cases from the previously reported cases of primary amyloidosis of the lower respiratory tract, and gave some description of pathologic and clinical aspects of this disease.
