[Case report of lymphangioma--a review of benign non-epithelial tumors of the pancreas].

Benign nonepithelial growths from indigenous structures in the pancreas are extremely rare. A patient with a lymphangioma of the pancreas is reported and 18 cases with benign non-epitherlial tumors reported in the Japanese literature are discussed. Of 18 tumors, 7 were hemangiogenic, 5 were lymphagiogenic, 3 were neurogenic and one each was fibromatous, leiomyomatous and teratomatus. There was no particular association with sex and age. Frequent symptoms suggesting intraintestinal hemorrhage, i.e. tarry stool, melena, occult blood, anemia.

Detection of hepatitis B surface antigen subtype adr in an epidemic of papular acrodermatitis of childhood (Gianotti's disease).

Papular acrodermatitis of childhood (PAC) has recently been reported to be associated with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) subtype ayw. Between September, 1978, and June, 1979, we saw 14 patients with PAC in a small epidemic occurring in Iwakuni City, Japan. HBsAg was detected in sera from all patients. Subtyping of HBsAg in 11 patients showed that 8 had a determinant adr and 3 had no detectable determinant because of low antigen titers. The result suggests that factors other than the specific HBsAg subtype contribute to the development of PAC.

Circulating levels of prekallikrein and kallikrein in pregnancy and labor.

Plasma levels of prekallikrein and kallikrein were measured in 147 pregnant women by the chromogenic substrate S2302 method. At the same time, individual fibrinolytic inhibitors (alpha 2-plasmin inhibitor, alpha 1-antitrypsin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, antithrombin-III, and Cl-inactivator) were determined by the radial immunodiffusion method. The plasma levels of prekallikrein increased significantly during pregnancy and thereafter decreased during delivery. In patients with severe toxemia of pregnancy and hydatidiform mole, plasma prekallikrein levels were low, below the normal range. On the other hand, plasma kallikrein concentrations were within non-pregnant levels until the end of pregnancy, but the levels increased just before delivery. Although no significant correlation was found between prekallikrein levels and fibrinolytic inhibitory activity in pregnancy, Cl-inactivator concentrations tended to be low only when the prekallikrein level was high. These changes in the prekallikrein-kallikrein system in late pregnancy may be related to activation of the kinin, which results in labor pain.

Demonstration by affinity chromatography of the cell-free synthesis of ribonuclease-specific immunoglobulin.

An immunoglobulin specific for RNase [EC 3.1.4.22] has been synthesized in a cell-free system containing either lymph node microsomes or polysomes or spleen polysomes from rats previously immunized with RNase. The synthesis of anti-RNase immunoglobulin was demonstrated by affinity chromatography using an RNase-Sepharose column. Supporting evidence for the cell-free synthesis of immunoglobulin was obtained by separating the synthesized immunoglobulin from other proteins by DEAE-Sephadex A-25 column chromatography and by neutralization of RNase activity with the separated immunoglobulin. Lymph nodes and spleen had an almost equal capacity to synthesize the immunoglobulin to RNase. Under our experimental conditions, 5 to 15 per cent of the total protein synthesis was directed toward immunoglobulin synthesis.
