Essay on knowledge, caring, and psychological factors in prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.

The prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers can be assisted by assessing the knowledge and caring of caregivers as well as by assessing the risk of patients. When assessing patients with pressure ulcers, it is perhaps as important to assess psychological factors and support systems as it is to assess the usual physical factors. Dividing patients into a passive pressure ulcer group and an active pressure ulcer group leads to better quality of treatment outcomes.

Anatomical alar reconstruction with staged nasolabial flap.

The nasolabial flap has for many years been an excellent choice for reconstruction of the nasal ala following excision of skin cancer or trauma. When done as a single-stage procedure the result can be a nonaesthetic appearing mass. We propose an initial excision with flap inset and a second procedure for debulking and contouring the alar groove to complete reconstruction of the aesthetic unit. Representative cases are presented.

Mohs' chemosurgery and skin cancer.

Experience in treating 1, 275 skin cancers with Mohs' chemosurgery is presented. The Mohs technic uses microscopic examination to avoid excision of normal tissue and assure complete removal of the tumor. Chemosurgery is indicated for tumors which are poorly demarcated or which arise in areas known to have a high recurrence rate. It is the procedure of choice for almost all recurrent lesions.
