The surgical treatment of vascular tumours of the face.

On the basis of 650 vascular tumours of the face treated in the Hospital of Plastic Surgery in Polanica Zdrój, the authors discuss the various methods of surgery evolved during the 30 years of Centre activity. Special attention has been paid to the management of the more difficult lympho- and haemangiomas such as cavernous, hypertrophic and expansive, or progressive forms. Numerous examples of treatment are presented.

Late repair of facial burns.

Management of patients with severe postburn facial deformities is elaborated. On the basis of over 400 patients, the planning and value of numerous surgical methods are discussed with--special regard to rarely adopted but effective solutions.

The surgical correction of maxillary hypoplasia and midfacial retrusion.

On the basis of 35 maxillary osteotomies of the Le Fort I and III types, the authors discuss the main problems connected with treatment of maxillary hypoplasia and midfacial retrusion. Special attention is paid to cases that demand coordinated treatment including skeletal as well as soft tissue repair and reconstruction. Thanks to combined treatment in all cases, including 7 patients with partial backward displacement of the osteotomized fragments whose occlusion could not be entirely corrected, striking or highly satisfactory improvement of appearance was achieved.

A procedure for facilitating physical therapy research.

A procedure for facilitating research by physical therapists in a multidimensional practice setting is presented. The article addresses the need for physical therapists to be aware of research opportunities, and provides them with a means for action when such opportunities occur. The developmental sequence of events is described starting with conceptualization and moving through current utilization of the procedure.
