The ability of different Fc receptors (Fc gamma R) on IgG-mediated cytotoxicity for human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells bearing large number of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFRs) was examined by using two isotypes (IgG1 and IgG2a) of murine monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) against EGFR in the presence of human monocytes and granulocytes. Two MoAbs (225 and LA1) of the IgG1 isotype exhibited effective cytolytic activity for A431 cells with human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) rather than with human mononuclear cells (MNC). In contrast, two MoAbs (528 and 579) of the IgG2a-isotype lysed the cells less effectively with PMN than with MNC. Anti-Fc gamma R II (CDw32) MoAb 2E1 inhibited the IgG1-mediated cytotoxicity by PMN, and anti-Fc gamma R III (CD16) MoAb 80H3 did not inhibit the IgG2a-mediated cytotoxicity by MNC. Under these conditions, antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity by mouse MoAb IgG1 isotypes resulted from antibody binding to the Fc gamma R II (CDw32) of PMN.
Immature teratoma, which contains variable quantities of immature tissues that resemble those of the embryo, is one of the primitive germ cell tumors. It occurs most frequently in young women but it is rarely reported in association with pregnancy. We report a case of immature teratoma associated with pregnancy exhibiting unique MR findings with pathologic correlation.
BACKGROUND: Paraovarian cysts are common intrapelvic neoplasms, but the magnetic resonance (MR) findings of paraovarian cyst have never been reported. We investigated the spectrum of MR imaging features of paraovarian cyst. METHODS: MR images of 18 paraovarian cysts in 16 patients were reviewed retrospectively. MR images were evaluated for the size and location of paraovarian cysts, single or multicystic, signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted images, and visualization of the normal ovary on the affected side. RESULTS: The normal ovary of the affected side was recognized in 13 lesions. Four of these 13 cysts were separated from the ipsilateral ovary. In seven cysts, the normal ovary was abutted by cysts but maintained its shape. In two cysts, the beak sign was recognized at the interface between the cyst and the ovary. Most other MR features were nonspecific. CONCLUSION: Most paraovarian cysts were homogeneous cystic masses near the ipsilateral round ligament and the uterus. Demonstration of a normal ipsilateral ovary close to, but separated from, the adnexal cyst may be an important MR finding for the diagnosis of paraovarian cysts.
We present two cases of primary splenic malignant lymphoma associated with chronic hepatitis C virus infection detected early by routine follow-up imaging studies. Septumlike structures were seen on postcontrast computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, which presented characteristic gross findings. These findings may suggest primary splenic malignant lymphoma during the course of chronic hepatitis C.
Bleeding from stomal varices in a patient with portal hypertension, uncontrolled by surgical ligation and sclerotherapy, was well controlled by percutaneous transhepatic embolization with platinum and stainless-steel coils.
