The use of equidensity photographic method in electron microscopy.

The equidensity photographic method has been adopted for the sake of electron microscopy. The use of this method at processing the electron micrographs allows to emphasize, divide off and as the case may be, to distinguish in colours objects displaying minimal difference in their contrast which is otherwise not perceptible. It is thus possible to obtain new information from electron micrograph which by the usual "negative-positive" method remains unrevealed.

SGC (SIF) cells in autonomic ganglion: evidence for a possible secretion of their content into the blood vessels.

Authors described signs of extrusion of granular vesicles from the SCG (SIF) cells in the inferior mesenteric ganglion of the dog. The granular vesicles were found in extracellular space as well as in the blood capillary lumen. Beside this, large number of granular vesicles were found in the cytoplasm of endothelial cells of blood capillary, mainly in places of close contact between the SGC cell and the endothelial cell of the capillary. These findings strongly suggest secretory function be a primary role of SGC cells in inferior mesenteric ganglion and would explain the rich vascularisation of the SGC cell groups.

[Effect of colchicine and lumicolchicine on the ultrastructure of non-myelinated axons in autonomic nerves in cat in vitro].

The effects of colchicine and lumicolchicine on the ultrastructure of non-myelinated axons in cat autonomic nerves were studied using in vitro preparations of inferior mesenteric ganglion/hypogastric nerves. After 24 hrs of in vitro incubation with colchicine added to the medium (10 microng/ml) a significant decrease in number of neurotubules per 1 axon was observed. In the presence of a solution of alpha-beta and gamma-lumicolchicine (10 microng/ml) severe degenerative changes occured in axons and Schwann cells. At a lower dose of lumicolchicine (3 microng/ml) these changes were less frequent and the number of neurotubules per 1 axon did not differ from that in control nerves.

Relationship of blood vessels to small intensely fluorescent cells in the autonomic ganglion.

In our experiments we observed the relationship of the blood vessels to the small, intensely fluorescent cells (SIF cells) in the lower mesenteric ganglion of the cat. We injected the solution of Evan's blue into the ganglia and processed them with the fluorescent histochemical method by Falck and Hillarp. We observed that the SIF cells are placed in the ganglia closely to the blood vessels or closely round them. When observing lager groups of SIF cells placed at the edge of the ganglia a dense network of the blood vessels was observed among these cells.
