[Operative treatment of ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and diverticulitis (author's transl)].

Operations and follow-up examinations were conducted on 106 patient with ulcerative colitis, 33 with colitis Crohn, and 163 with diverticulitis, at the University Clinics of Cologne and Munich. Overall mortality rates were 24.5% (n=26), 6.1% (n=2) and 16% (n=26), respectively. In the surgical treatment of ulcerative colitis the possibility of malignant degeneration and, in the case of Crohn's disease, prevention of recurrences must be taken into consideration. Whether Crohn's disease is a precancerous condition remains to be clarified. Choosing the optimal time for operative intervention is as important in diverticulitis as in ulcerative colitis. Because of the possibility of complications and the high risk of operation, early intervention is recommended for diverticulitis.

[Angiographic diagnosis of hemangiomas in the orbital region (author's transl)].

The polymorphus hemangiomas-especially those of the cavernous type in the orbital region, the face, the scalp or the rhinopharynx are not demonstrable neither by arterial nor venous angiography. If direct puncture of the angioma is possible, the injection of radioopaque medium shows a characteristic picture. The smooth limitation, partial septation and the delayed outflow of contrast medium are important criterions for the differential diagnosis. Moreover the delimitation of the hemangioma from the surrounding tissue is possible and the best surgical access can be selected. If the expanding process is situated in the orbit, and has reached a certain size, the venography of the orbit indicates the extent and localization of the orbital mass.

[Chronic berylliosis of the lungs with special regard of pathomorphology (author's transl)].

The course of the disease of a berylliosis of the lungs is described with a patient, who had been working with berylliumoxide in the laboratory of a porcelain factory for about 21 months between his 16th and 20th year of life. At the age of 22 berylliosis was diagnosed radiologically and recognized as a occupational disease. At 32 years of age the patient died from the sequences of berylliosis. In this case-study the particular damages due to berylliosis are discussed depending on the different beryllium compounds. The chronic berylliosis of the lungs is pointed out in a pathologically anatomical way. It is supposed that an allergic reaction of the organism is reponsible for the pathogenesis. Special demands in the field of industrial medicine are resulting from the course of the disease.
