[Bone findings in psoriasis].
Three female patients out of 40 psoriatics examined with scintigraphical methods (Tc-diphosphonate) were found to have a diffuse and circumscribed pathological increase of nuclide at the skull. These abarticular signes of proliferation at the bone-area indicate an early affection of skeleton of patients with psoriasis which is similar to the joint-scan that is mostly obtained in positive bone-scan.

[Palliative radiotherapy with Strontium-89 in case of extended formation of skeleton metastases (author's transl)].
In order to allay pains or make them cease, fifteen patients with extended tumors and generalized formation of skeleton metastases were submitted in 1976 to an internal palliative radiotherapy. They received between 0.8 and 2.7 mCi of Sr-89, five patients were treated again after four to five months because the pains had reappeared. The results were relatively good. Two patients showed a prompt effect and were completely free of pains within 48 hours, three patients did not present any demonstrable effect. The analgetic effect remained from four days to four months. Due to the utilization of the pure beta emitter Sr-89, the radiation doses measured in the patients after the application are relatively small: after the application they amount at most to 0.5 mR/h in a distance of 1 m.

[Treatment of arthritic psoriasis with Demoplas Clinical and scintigraphic study in 10 patients (author's transl)].
Clinical, X-ray, and scintigraphic (6mCi 99mtechnetium pertechnetate, 4mCi 99mtechnetium pyrophosphate) tests for joint involvement were conducted on 11 inpatients with psoriasis (4 female, 7 male), 6 of them cases of what is conventionally termed psoriatic arthropathy. These tests were performed both before and after a 12-day period of therapy with daily 4 x 1 coated tablets of Demoplas containing 150 mg phenylbutazone Scintigraphic tests showed that pathological radionuclide concentrations were present in at least one joint or group of joints in 10 out of 11 patients. Following therapy the previously pathological scintigraphic findings had stabilized completely in 4 patients and partially in 3 patients, but had not stabilized in 3 patients. The results of therapy with Demoplas as demonstrated by joint scintigraphy were thus good to satisfactory in 7 patients and unsatisfactory in 3 patients- possibly owing to the short duration of therapy. The improvement in scintigraphic results testifies to the therapeutic action of phenylbutazone on arthritic psoriasis. This can also be regarded as additional proof that psoriatic joint involvement is of an inflammatory and proliferative nature.
Serial scintigraphy during isolated renal perfusion.
A quantitative standard of radioactive impulse activity can be determined as an indicator of renal functional ability during renal transplantation and after perfusion by simple methods. Hippuran excretion is nearly absent at temperature below 8 degrees C but is still measurable and rises with every degree above 4 degrees C. If there is no evidence of Hippuran excretion at 8 degrees C, this will indicate a degree of renal damage. The examination for non-pulsatile, stored kidneys similar to the method employed by Collins appears perfectly satisfactory to us. The radioactive substances do not necessarily damage the organ because the kidneys are washed out rapidly. Similar radioactive materials can be used in pre-operative preservation and during the postoperative periods as a means of control and diagnosis without additional personnel or expenditure. In the past, false values have been obtained, owing to spasm when albumin base solutions have been used. When spasm is noted, repeated measurements should be done to determine if the spasm is true, or the result of organ damage. The basic correlation between organ weight, organ blood flow and scintigraphic impulse rates will give an initial estimate of organ activity, even when the condition of the donor kidney is unknown. Follow-up sequential scintigrams provide information regarding the suitability of the organ for transplantation.
[Scintigraphic functional analysis with the gamma camera during renal perfusion (author's transl)].
The controlled progress of transplanted kidneys has already been useful. We have succeeded in finding a simple method to study the function of the renal parenchyma and the collecting system. This method was also applied to determine a flow volume relation during perfusion in comparison to impulse rates. In contrast the conventional parameters, which only describe a partial function of the organ, this simple method will deliver comprehensive information before transplantation.

[Carcinoma of the pancreas: palliative surgery (author's transl)].
Among 1146 patients with diseases of the pancreas observed over a 15-year period, there were 234 cases of malignant duodeno-pancreatic tumors. This report concerns the intraoperative diagnostic methods and the various palliative operations available. There was a ratio of 13 males to 10 females, and the average age was 63 years. In 24.3 percent of the patients attempts to establish the diagnosis intraoperatively by puncture or excision were unsuccessful. The cardinal symptom in 71 percent of these cases was icterus. Duodenopancreatectomy was possible only in 21 cases (= 8.9%). In 173 cases (= 75.2% of all patients) a palliative operation was performed.
[Sequential scintigraphy of four different 99mTc human albumen preparations used for lung scanning].
The biological behaviour of four 99mTc-marked human albumen preparations, prepared by different methods, were studied by serial scintigraphy and excretion measurements. Three preparations consisted of particles of irregular albumen macroaggregates, the fourth was in the form of spherical albumen particles (microspheres). Forty-five patients with various pulmonary abnormalities were examined. The following parameters were used for comparison: half-life of pulmonary activity, changes in activity in liver and spleen as a measure for the formation of Tc-containing particle fragments, uptake in the thyroid and stomach and urinary excretion as an indication of the stability of the nucleid fixation. Despite marked differences in their biological behaviour, all four substances provide comparable information and lack of toxicity and are suitable for lung scintigraphy. Because of the rapid initial decline in activity in the lung, microspheres are more suitable for use with a gamma camera, whereas the other three preparations, in view of their long persistence in the lung can be conveniently used for the slower examinations with a conventional scanner.
[99mTc-iron complex for demonstrating reflux without the use of a catheter (author's transl)].
99mTc-iron complex was used in 35 patients (20 adults and 15 children) in an investigation into ureteric reflux without using a catheter. The results were compared with the findings on micturating cysto-urethrography. Agreement in the findings was observed in 56 of the 69 kidneys examined. In only four kidneys, showing reflux radiologically, was this not observed on the isotope examination; in view of the low radiation dose, the catheter-free isotope method can be recommended as the most suitable investigation. The need for serial investigations or contrast allergies are important indications for using this method. The relatively high frequency with which reflux shown by the isotope method could not be confirmed radiologically (nine kidneys) indicates that the isotope is more sensitive than the radiological investigation.
[Radiation dose to the patient after administration of radioactive labelled colloids (author's transl)].
The radiation dose to the patient after injection of radioactive colloids is calculated for three substances: colloidal radiogold, 99mTc sulfur colloid and 113mIn colloid. For the calculation normal and pathological conditions were assumed.
