Contract processing and sterilization has a number of advantages to offer hospitals. In order for a hospital to realize those advantages it must be able to accurately assess its needs and the effect the service will have on its bottom line. There is a good future for contract processing and sterilization services. Hospitals that have taken this approach do not return to in-house instrument sterilization. The "what happens if the truck breaks down" and "will surgeons accept standard trays" questions are finding answers in effective management of this important contract service.
