In our department 24 patients underwent treatment of invasive trophoblastic tumours from 1975 to 1984. In 13 cases we were dealing with invasive bladder moles and in 11 cases with chorionic carcinoma. Nine women became pregnant, among them one case of chorionic carcinoma. Eight women were delivered of a viable child on average 30 months after the end of the treatment, whereas one patient wanted termination of pregnancy. Six women had undergone a methotrexate monotherapy before, two women a sequential treatment with methotrexate + actinomycine D. The undisturbed pregnancies and births of eight healthy babies point to an unimpaired fertility after chemotherapy of trophoblastic tumours.
An account is given on pregnancy, delivery and childbed of a 26 year old phosphate diabetic. Nothing but regular control of the required laboratory data allows a variable substitution of necessary medications as presupposition for an undisturbed course of pregnancy and development of the fetus.
In the Gynecological Clinic of the Medical Academy Dresden 585 women with primary malignant ovarian tumors were attended from 1953 until 1979. 118 patients (20,2%) were classified as stage I, 97 (82,2%) of them as stage Ia. A unilateral adnexectomy was carried out in only 25 women (25,8%) at stage Ia, 13 (13,4%) of them were younger than 40 and did not undergo additional therapy because they wanted to have a child. Six women were not subjected to additional treatment due to old age and general condition. Five of the 13 younger women gave birth to viable children after an average of 50 months, one patient was confined for the second time after further 24 months. Eighteen (95%) of 19 exclusively conservative operated on women survived the 5-year-period free of tumor. All these women were younger than 40. -After an average of 73 months six young women had to undergo relaparotomy and radical operation under suspicion of recurrence. In two cases a tumor recidivation was found, one where of was precancerous. Benefits and risks of the conservative approach in primary treatment are discussed and attention is drawn to the necessity of secondary radical operation.
A new sesquiterpene alcohol, 12-hydroxy-E-gamma-bisabolene, is reported from an undescribed Caribbean sea whip of the genus Pseudopterogorgia. The structure of this new alcohol was established based upon spectral analyses and through chemical interconversions.

It is reported about a case of an advanced malign mesothelioma of the peritoneum. After a palliative operation the patient was treated for 3 years combined-cytostatically with cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, 5-fluororacil and vincristin. The patient has been free of symptoms of tumours for 4 years. Possible variants of therapy are discussed because of the rareness of the tumour and the therapeutic problems resulting from it.
In a previous paper, the overall or macrokinetics of the immobilized glucose oxidase--catalase system has been presented. In this paper a detailed analysis of the interaction of diffusion and reaction in this system will be presented. The mathematical treatment includes two consecutive reactions with two-substrate kinetics. Furthermore, the deactivation of both enzymes due to the intermediate product peroxide is taken into account. The predicted results suggest that the efficiency of the glucose oxidase reaction depends on the concentration ranges of the two substrates. Furthermore, the external mass-transfer rate may cause a shift from glucose limitation to oxygen limitation. The efficiency of the coupled system is always higher than that predicted for the uncoupled reaction path. The calculations show that the economics of the coupled system depend a great deal on the deactivation of the enzymes.
Acute staphylococcal sepsis is a rare complication following artificial joint replacement. Daignostic problems are due to the systemic toxic effects of staphylococci. Loosening of the prosthesis is generally observed later. For therapy of staphylococcal sepsis the prosthesis has to be changed early, using a tested antibotic mixed with the bone cement, Palacos. Prophylaxis is most important. It includes the elimination of infectious foci, the strong indication for all therapeutic measurements and the general use of the antibiotic, Gentamycin, with the bone cement, Palacos.
