The author discusses her experiences with first generation patients with academic degree. In Hungary, the social-political changes, the ideological pressure, and the accelerated social mobility caused severe problems for the young persons who left their social background. The author outlines similarities among the therapies, and illustrates with case vignettes the special difficulties in the working through of transference-counter-trancferene relating the before mentioned processes. She concludes that the most pathogenic factors are the preodipal trauma, and the ineffectivness of the shame regulation.
