With the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp the author presents a selection of historical documents concerning the camp medical service which are at the museum in Oświecim. He stressed their minimal use in medical historical works.
A sequence of events is presented leading to the trial of Professor J. Kosiński who allegedly had left surgical instruments in a patient's abdomen which resulted in her death. Though the verdict of not guilty was returned and damages claim dismissed, Professor Kosiński discontinued performing surgeries probably as a result of the trial.
