Some interrelations between the density of the Haversian canals and the area occupied by these in the diaphyseal compact bone in man.

The authors studied the ratio between the density of the Haversian canals and the area occupied by these in the diaphyseal cortex of the main long bones in man. The interrelation was estimated by means of the correlation coefficient, which varies between -0.135 for the fibula and -0.168 for the humerus. It was found that the two parameters were inversely proportional: the greater the number of canals in a given area, the smaller the relative proportion of the area occupied by them.

Block diagrams for the study of some endocrine processes.

With the help of bibliographical data and contributions of the authors two block diagrams have been built. These block diagrams are scheming two processes connected with the exposure of the organism to a moderate physical exercise: (a) the control of the release and the effect of ACTH (b) the control of the release and effect of STH. Some practical conclusion can be drawn regarding the interpretation of the endocrine modifications during exercise including those during standard functional tests.

The study of asymmetric transport phenomena in living systems through second-order phenomenological equations.

In this study we approach the transport phenomena by second-order phenomenological equations. If the condition of Onsager is not accepted, then it results that in the living system there is asymmetrical transport. The experimental investigations proved that the exchange between Na+-Ca2+ is asymmetric, as there takes place the transport of three ions of Na+ to one ion of Ca2+. This is an instance of concordance between theory and experimental research.

Psychophysiological assessment of cardiovascular risk factors.

An overview of recent data concerning the evaluation of overall risk for CHD shows the drawbacks of existing formulae. On this basis a more complete screening score and a new mathematic formula for computing the probability of risk for CHD have been assessed. Besides the primary and classical risk factors the latter also includes psychophysiological variables concerning stress and coronary prone behaviour. Five modalities to estimate the overall risk have been used in cases with various risks and the new formula has been applied to a group of 93 textile workers. The results certify the good differentiation power of the proposed formula.

The study of asymmetric carrier transport phenomena in living systems.

The paper presents a probability model of carrier mechanism. The formation of a carrier-substrate complex is considered to happen with a variable probability as a stochastic model. The characterization of this process from a mathematical point of view is achieved. The mathematical description embeds the carrier mechanism into the general theory of transport processes. It is proved that the carrier transport mechanism is only the one of asymmetric transport phenomena.
