Three patients with acquired-B antigens are reported whose red blood cells also manifested T- and Tk-activation. The results of tests using purified Arachis hypogaea and Bandeiraea simplicifolia (BS II) lectins, and red blood cells either T, Tk or both T and Tk-activated by bacterial enzymes in vitro, suggest that the acquired-B phenomenon, T-activation and Tk-activation result from the action of different bacterial enzymes.
Gonococcal adherence to human host epithelial surfaces appears to be an important feature in pathogenesis of gonorrhea. Attaining and maintaining close association with epithelial cells may involve interactions of both gonococcus to epithelial cell and gonococcus to gonococcus; it is suggested that two distinct gonococcal surface components--pili and outer membrane protein II--play complementary roles in promoting these close associations with mucosal cells. Both pili and outer membrane protein II occur in several different molecular forms among gonococci of a given strain, and expression of a particular form of each changes at high frequency in vitro. If analogous changes occur in vivo, gonococci may have a sizeable repertoire of surface facades to cope with changing or different cellular and humoral components of the host.

Physical and psychological changes during pregnancy which affect sexual relationships are discussed. Some of these changes can cause a rift between husband and wife; however, the nurse can play a key role in helping couples successfully adjust to changing sexual relationship. Recommendations for counseling pregnant couples are given.
Joint flexibility and laxity as measured by 5 indices among 2,300 West Point cadets demonstrated no statistical relationship to joint injuries, or the need for surgical intervention resulting from injuries sustained in general athletic competition involving the ankle, knee, shoulder, or elbow. Similarly, no relationships were seen in a high school and collegiate football team. Parameters of flexibility vary significantly among different athletic population groups as related to age, sex, and type of athletic activity in which the individual is participating. In that part of the study conducted during the 1975 football season, the 16PF showed some potential for predicting injuries. However, stronger relationships between predictor and criterion variables must be established in the future before injury predisposition counseling is a possibility. Hopefully, continuing study will bring this into being and will extend to younger and younger individuals and other population groups. This would facilitate the development of an injury profile index to assist in the counseling of athletes into sports where their individual traits are protective and beneficial, rather than detrimental.
