[Incidence of lung fibrosis in Hungary].

Epidemiological data of patients with lung fibrosis being registered in dispensaries are demonstrated. Three groups of fibrosis patients are registered: lung fibrosis of known origin, lung fibrosis associated with systemic disease and lung fibrosis of unknown origin. In 1984 prevalence was 22.7/100,000. Incidence was the lowest in systemic diseases and the highest in lung fibrosis of unknown origin.

[Initial results with x-ray absorption spectrometry in lung fibrosis].

Biopsies from 68 patients suffering from interstitial lung disease were examined with regard to minerals using Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDXA). In 31 patients a higher portion of minerals or elements were found as pigments. The interpretation of these findings is difficult. If there is a professional exposition and a reaction of the lung parenchyma the findings could be of clinical value.

[Significance of mineral substances in interstitial lung diseases].

Authors studied on 19 patients with interstitial pulmonary diseases bioptic material from the lungs gained with Hausser -needle especially for mineral components. With energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) in connection with electron microscopy exogen pigments were identified in every case. The pigment deposition proved to be the result of professional dust exposition. The inhaled dusts can be considered as etiologic factors if their source can be demonstrated unanimously, if other pathogens can be excluded and the characteristic tissue reactions can be demonstrated.

[Ultrastructural changes in the liver and leukocytes of a child with Niemann-Pick disease].

Morphological findings in Niemann-Pick disease of an infant are described. By electron microscopy in the cytoplasma of leukocytes and hepatocytes mostly moderaty electrodense unmature lipid-containing cytosomes were seen. Morphological alterations found in the leukocytes and hepatocytes in contrast to the earlier findings appeared to be similar. Authors stress the importance of electron microscopic investigation of peripheric leukocytes.

[Ultrastructure of cytoplasmic deposits and enzyme studies in human primary liver cancer].

Authors examined of the fine structure and electronhistochemical properties of deposits observed in two cases of primary liver carcinoma. It was established, that these deposits are formed by filaments consisting of fine granules of 70 A in diameter. On the basis of morphological picture and results of the investigation by enzymatic-dogestion technique it is believed, that deposits are the product of the rough-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum and their occurrence indicate the impairment of it's function. Deposits--as revealed by the enzymatic-digestion technique--consists of complex material, the protein component of which contain large quantities of basical amino acids.
