[Does a short-term hemodialysis treatment influence function of the pituitary-testicular axis in patients with chronic renal failure?].

Abnormal function of the pituitary-gonadal axis is a well documented endocrine abnormality in chronic renal failure (CRF). The purpose of the work was to assess the influence of the short-term haemodialysis treatment on LH, FSH and testosterone secretion. In 17 men dialyzed up to 50 months and 10 non-dialyzed male patients with advanced CRF the test of stimulation with LHRH was done. Results obtained in patients were compared with those assessed in healthy subjects. Significantly higher concentration of LH and FSH and lower concentration of testosterone in serum under basal conditions were found in patients as compared to controls. Basal concentrations of LH, FSH and testosterone in dialyzed patients and in non dialyzed men were similar. The area under the curve of LH, FSH and testosterone in both groups of patients was similar. These results suggest that in men dialyzed shorter than 50 months haemodialysis treatment does not change significantly the function of the pituitary-testicular axis as compared to men with advanced CRF.

[Concentration of prealbumin, ceruloplasmin, alpha-macroglobulin and haptoglobin in blood serum of patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis treated with hemodialysis for chronic renal failure].

In 25 patients with chronic renal failure, treated with haemodialysis (13 patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis, and 12 cases without evidence of hepatocellular damage), and in 20 healthy persons, blood serum concentrations were determined of prealbumin, ceruloplasmin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, and haptoglobin. It was found that the concentrations of these proteins in both subgroups of patients were not significantly different. The concentration of prealbumin was higher, and that of alpha 2-macroglobulin and haptoglobin was significantly lower in comparison with healthy subjects.

[Effect of prolonged hemodialysis therapy on secretion of testosterone induced by luliberin in men with chronic renal insufficiency].

The effects of prolonged hemodialysis therapy on testosterone secretion have been studied in 41 men with chronic renal insufficiency. Fifteen healthy men served as control group. LH-RH stimulation test was performed in all the studied subjects. It was found that blood serum testosterone concentration is lowered in all the patients with renal insufficiency irrespective of the time of duration of hemodialysis therapy as compared to the control group. In patients dialyzed longer than 50 month testosterone level was higher than in those subjected to shorter period of hemodialysis therapy. Reactivity of testosterone secretion in LH-RH stimulation test was greater in patients dialyzed over 50 months than either in those dialyzed during the shorter period or in the controls.

[Effect of long-term hemodialysis on luliberin-induced lutropin secretion in patients with chronic renal failure].

The purpose of the work was to answer the question whether time of haemodialysis treatment affects the secretion of lutropin (LH) in patients with chronic renal failure. The study was carried out in 41 men with chronic renal failure and 15 healthy controls. There were three groups of hemodialyzed patients. The first one comprised 17 patients dialyzed up to 50 months, the second one 14 patients treated during 51-100 months and the third one 10 patients hemodialyzed for more than 100 months. In all these subjects the test of stimulation with luliberin (LH-RH) was done. Significantly higher serum levels of LH were found in patients as compared to controls. No significant alterations in LH levels were observed in the groups of patients. After administration of LH-RH the reactivity of LH secretion was significantly lower in patients dialyzed longer than 50 months then in men dialyzed shorter and in controls. These facts suggest an influence of long-term dialysis treatment on the secretion of LH in men with chronic renal failure.

[Serum levels of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein, haptoglobin, C 3c component of the complement and immunoglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM in liver damage in patients with chronic renal failure treated by repeated hemodialysis].

Thirty-five patients with chronic renal failure treated with repeated haemodialyses were divided into 3 groups: without evidence of hepatocellular damage (n = 11), with HBs-negative hepatocellular damage (n = 13), with HBS-positive, HBe-positive hepatocellular damage (n = 10). The concentrations of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein, haptoglobin, C3c complement component, IgG, IgA, IgM were determined in the serum before haemodialysis. The serum concentration of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein was statistically significantly higher in the patients in comparison with the healthy subjects. The concentrations of haptoglobin and C3c complement component in the serum were not statistically significantly different form those in healthy controls. The serum levels of IgG, IgA and IgM in patients with hepatocellular damage HBs-positive and HBe-positive were statistically significantly higher in relation to healthy subjects, the serum IgG level in this group was statistically significantly higher than in the group without hepatocellular damage and the group with HBs-negative hepatocellular damage.

[Parathyroid hormone and blood pressure in patients with chronic renal failure treated by repeated hemodialysis].

In 36 patients with chronic renal failure treated with repeated haemodialyses the relationship was studied between the level of the C-terminal fragment of the parathyroid hormone in the serum and arterial blood pressure. Depending on the value of the concentration of this C-fragment the patients were divided into three groups: I with concentration below 200 pg/ml, II with concentration 2000-5000 pg/ml, III over 500 pg/ml. In the first group a statistically significant correlation was found between the concentration of the C-terminal fragment of the hormone in the serum and the values of systolic arterial pressure (r = 0.687; p less than 0.05) and diastlic pressure (0 = 0.637; p less than 0.05).
