[Polypropylene-polyester prostheses. Experimental studies].

Polypropylene-polyester prostheses invented by the Research and Development Center of the Textile Industry in łódź are composed of two knitted polyester layers with perpendicular columns arrangement laminated by polypropylene. The prostheses were implanted in 10 pigs into the sternum and shoulder blade, the abdominal wall and peritoneal cavity. The autopsies of the animals were made 90 to 180 days after the operation. Both in bone and soft tissues, the prostheses healed up without local or general complications. The results obtained in surgical post-operative, macroscopic and microscopic examinations prove that the polypropylene-polyester prostheses fulfill the basic conditions for biomaterials. The different moulders of these materials may be used as temporary or permanent implants.

[Physical and biological examinations of polyester electret foil. Preliminary report].

The results of tissue reaction to polyester thermoelectret foil samples are evaluated. The electrostatic measurement of the foils was performed before implantation. The experimental animals were divided into four groups depending on the surface charge density of the foils. The autopsy of the animals was performed three days after the operation. The tissues of close contact to the foil were examined under the microscope and the electrostatic measurement of the foils.

Basic studies on autogenized and lysophilized vascular prostheses.

In an effort to improve vascular prostheses, basic studies on tissue-alloplastic prostheses according to a new conception were performed. A medical polyester yarn was used for the construction of three types of prostheses with different mesh and high porosity. The prostheses were autogenized on silicon rods and then lyophilized, resulting in their full intraoperative impermeability, but high biological permeability and antithrombogenicity. Vascular prostheses of this type fulfill many of the requirements of a so-called ideal prosthesis. Analysis of the test examinations provides a basis for elaborating principles for the preparation and production of new tissue-alloplastic prostheses for clinical purposes.

[Clinical study of resorbable surgical sutures. A suggestion].

There has been attempted in the Institute of Surgery, Wrocław Medical School, in 1975 the clinica study with the purpose of comparative evaluation of two kinds of tissue-resorbable surgical sutures, namely catgut and polyglycolic acid threads. To standardize the basic methods of clinical examination to be followed by teams of experts, basing on literature data and own experience, a proposition was elaborated including indications and methods of choosing the groups of resorbable and non-resorbable threads, aseptic demands, and intraoperative, postoperative and laboratory examinations.

[Laboratory and clinical testing of modern adhesive tapes and dressing materials].

Twelve kinds of adhesive tapes and dressing materials produced by Beiersdorf were evaluated using laboratory, experimental and clinical tests. There were performed examinations of physical, physico-mechanical and bacteriostatic properties. Tests for supradermal and intradermal reactivity were performed in experimental animals. Moreover, different clinical tests of these materials were made.
