[Intervention measures in geriatrics from the viewpoint of a geriatric clinic with special reference to pharmacotherapy].

The objective of intervention is to produce an improved state of physical, psychological, and sociological well-being. To reach this state a complex therapeutic program is required that offers the best of pharmacotherapy, nutrition, occupational and activity therapies, and the advice of specialists during the course of therapy. Consultations with the patients' family-doctors are also important. The practice of geriatrics will be improved when we include its special considerations in our school curriculum .

[Differential therapeutic aspects of pneumonia in the aged].

Pneumonia in old age often leads to death even under hospital conditions. This results in the necessity of an early and effective therapy. In a retrospective analysis differential-therapeutic aspects showed that the disease can be influenced by means of pharmacotherapy in different ways. The results indicate that penicillin and semi-synthetic derivatives are more efficacious than chloramphenicol and sulphonamides. Further specific studies of the efficacy of the drugs to be applied for older patients should be intended.

[Value of medical technics in the medical management of elderly patients].

The patient enters the hospital with a certain attitude of expectation. In this context we discuss the suppositions and tasks for physicians and nurses in connection with the medical technique in the carc-regime for patients (diagnosis, therapy and nursing). The medical technique receives a stabil place in the process of improvement of sensoric and affective possibilities of the physician. It remains a mile-stone of diagnosis and therapy. We take into consideration the economical aspects, psychic reservations of patient, but also aims, necessities and application-limits of medical technique.

[Acute loss of consciousness in the aged].

Syncopal attacks of different origin appear in older patients with relative frequency. The knowledge about a differential-diagnostic regime is of absolute necessity for a favourable therapy. That's the reason why the causes, typical symptoms and therapeutical principles are demonstrate.

[Speech illusions and their significance for aviation and space flight practice].

The pattern of erroneous perception of intelligible and incoherent words accompanied by loud noise has been investigated. It has been found that proper interpretation of incoherent words depends at large on their rhythmic, or syllabic structure. As a rule, the words are reconstructed in the back-to-forward direction. One- and two-syllable words with predominant median and low frequencies are those which are most frequently subjected to speech illusions.

[Relations between productivity and rehabilitation measures in cardiovascular diseases in the aged].

The rehabilitation of patients in older age is depended from physical, psychical and social activity. But the limited possibility of adaptation, the broad individual spreeding of the character, and the polymorbidity in the older age have to taken into consideration. Hence follow some peculiarities in the rehabilitation process. The main aim of rehabilitation of patients in older age has to be the effort of social reintegration, the obtaining of an economic self-sufficiency as well as the production of self-reliance.

[Task of a day hospital in geriatrics].

The necessity to establish geriatric day hospitals was described under consideration of epidemiology, humanity, organization and economy. The subject matter of work, structure, localities and function were detailed pointed out. The report presents an important way solving the tasks of policy of health in future. It were made references to the manner of work and first experiences in the day hospital of the Geriatric Center in Berlin-Buch, GDR.
