Treatment of endogenous depressions with thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) under oral administration.

In a double-blind study among six patients suffering from endogenous depression, three patients received thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone (TRH) administered orally in doses of 20 mg three times a day for 3 weeks. In an open controlled study of three patients suffering from endogenous depression, two patients received oral TRH 20 mg four times a day for 2 weeks. Degree of depression according to Hamilton's Rating Scale measured during the study showed that TRH had no antidepressant effect. Thyroxine concentration in serum (T4) increased during the period of TRH treatment.

[Diagnostic problems posed by acute necrosis of the extremities after electrocoagulation of an epithelioma of the floor of the mouth].

Three weeks after electrocoagulation of an enormous epithelioma of the floor of the mouth, a 62-year-old man presented after a shower-bath with symmetrical cyanosis of the toes and fingers with painful oedema coloured by livedo reticularis of the lower third of the legs and forearms. In the hands this developed into a dry necrosis and necessitated their amputation. In the absence of biological tests and a posteriori the authors discuss the diagnosis of cryoglobulinaemia and intravascular disseminated coagulopathy; but in fact, these two syndromes produce very similar cutaneous symptoms, notably, cryofibrinogenaemias, cryofibrinogen being a degradation product of fibrin liberated in C. I. V. D.

[Extrusion into the inferior dental canal of filling material. Apropos of 18 cases].

The purpose of this article is to draw the reader's attention to a fairly frequent complication in root treatments with suspicious clinical symptoms and in which painful complications are particularly to be feared. This complication appears therefore to be a stomatological emergency, treatment for which is aimed at bringing about regeneration of the traumatised nerve, prognosis being dependent on prompt surgical measures, the site of the complication and the anatomical damage done to the lower dental nerve.

Analysis of the dynamic responses of deefferented primary muscle spindle endings to ramp stretch.

A detailed analysis of the complex dynamic response of 8 deefferented primary muscle spindle endings to ramp stretches of the extensor digitorum longus muscle (EDL) was made in anaesthetized cats. The analysis was based on Lennerstand's linear muscle spindle model, in which the dynamic peak, i.e. the peak frequency at the end of the dynamic phase of a ramp stretch, is assumed to consist of three components: a position response, a slow velocity response, and a quick velocity response. The components of the dynamic peaks analysed were fairly well correlated with the static behaviour of the primary muscle spindle endings, the latter, in turn, being regarded as an indicator of the spindles' location in the non-homogeneous extrafusal muscle. The results thus provide a satisfactory explanation of the high correlations between the static and gross dynamic behaviour of deefferented primary muscle spindle endings of the EDL previously reported from our laboratory.

Solubilization of an alpha-bungarotoxin-binding component from rat brain.

Binding of [125I]-alpha-bungarotoxin to rat brain was investigated. Picomole quantities of specific toxin binding sites per gram of fresh tissue were found in particulate preparations as well as detergent extracts of whole brain. The toxin-binding macromolecules can be solubilized in low concentrations of Triton X-100. Specific binding occurs to a single class of sites with a dissociation constant of 5.6 X 10(-11) M. The association rate constant in 10 mM sodium phosphate, pH 7.4, was determined to be 6.8 X 10(5) M-1 s-1; the half-life of the complex was found to be 5.1 h, corresponding to a dissociation rate constant of 3.8 X 10(-5) s-1. The binding macromolecules resemble peripheral nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in toxin binding kinetics, solubility, isoelectric point, and hydrodynamic properties.

[Comparative study on lymphocyte stimulation by PHA and bacterial endotoxins, particularly in malignant tumor and allergy patients].

In a group of 37 tumor patients with predominantly advanced disease, LPS stimulation (LPS of Sh. sonnei and Sh. flexneri) resulted in a significant increase of the transformation rates caused, most probably, by the high proportion of B cells. On the other hand, allergics (drug allergies) did not differ from controls. It seems possible that B cell stimulation by bacterial endotoxins can be used for the assessment of the reactivity of the organism.

[Two malignant uterine tumors of embryonic tissue residues. (Carcinoma of Gartner's ducts, Mullerian mixed tumor)].

Report about a Gartnergang-carcinoma of the cervix uteri of a 24 years old woman. The cytological findings as well as the typical histological characteristics are represented. Persisting particles of the Gartnergang have been proved at the right lateral wall of the cervix uteri and in the lower parts of the corpus uteri. Report about a woman of 62 years. A Mullerian mixed tumour of the corpus uteri with myxoedematous parts has been diagnosed. It must be pointed out, that previous radiotherapy of the true pelvis may possible incluence the development of a Mullerian mixed tumour.
