The synthesis of a nucleopeptide with the sequence -Ser(p5'CATCAT)-Gly-Asp- has been undertaken by either convergent or stepwise solid-phase strategies, both of which use base-labile permanent protecting groups. The coupling of phosphitylated protected peptides onto oligonucleotide-resins did not afford the desired nucleopeptide, which was nevertheless obtained after oligonucleotide elongation at the hydroxyl group of the resin-bound peptide and deprotection under mild basic conditions. A preliminary study on the stability of different nucleopeptides to bases is also reported.
OBJECTIVES: A case of traumatic high flow priapism that had been successfully treated by selective embolization of the internal pudendal artery is described. METHODS: High flow priapism was diagnosed in a patient who presented with painless prolonged erection. He had fallen down from a horse twelve days before. The intracavernous blood gas analysis had arterial characteristics and erection did not subside with conservative management. Selective embolization of the internal pudendal artery was performed after visualization of an arteriocavernous fistula. RESULTS: Priapism disappeared just after the procedure and sexual potency was preserved. CONCLUSIONS: Selective embolization of the internal pudendal artery is an appropriate treatment for traumatic high flow priapism.
A clinical case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma without extrahepatic involvement treated with liver transplantation is presented. The patient remains alive 42 months thereafter without tumor recurrence. A review of cases reported to date was carried out with special reference being made to the therapy undertaken and the follow-up.

Treatment of the peptide-resin Ac-Asn-Ser(Bzl)-Gly-Asp(OFm)-pMeBHA with HF/anisole cleaves the peptide-resin bond and removes the benzyl group, as expected, but also yields an impurity (ca. 25%) in which the benzyl group is linked to the fluorenylmethyl protecting group. Separation of the desired peptide from the impurity can be accomplished by reversed-phase medium-pressure liquid chromatography. The side reaction does not take place when the gamma-carboxyl of aspartic acid is protected with the 2-(4-acetyl-2-nitrophenyl)ethyl group.
A review of the synthetic routes to phencyclidine (PCP, 1-(1-phenylcyclohexyl)piperidine) available in the open literature is presented. The emphasis herein is directed toward the forensic investigation of clandestine PCP laboratories. Six published synthetic routes to PCP/analogs are discussed. Each method is rated for overall yield, degree of difficulty and potential hazard, in order to assist the forensic chemist in evaluation of a particular clandestine operation. One clandestine recipe is illustrated and discussed.

Forty-six advanced ovarian cancer patients treated with conventional modalities with the addition of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immunotherapy showed prolonged survival when compared to controls not given BCG. Although the data suggest enhancement of survival with the addition of BCG to conventional treatment, the fact remains that disease recurrence ultimately claims the lives of most of these patients. Nonetheless, patients are surviving longer in the face of advanced disease.
In a review of our experience with the extraction of foreign bodies using the fiberendoscope in 57 patients who ingested true foreign bodies and had food bolus impaction, we found 17 of the foreign bodies to be big metallic wires. The extraction technique used and the complications as a result of the object or the technique are given herein.
