This is the first case report of the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome due to an infiltrating tumour of the stomach. Plasma gastrin levels were high and gastrin was demonstrated in argyrophil tumour cells by an immunofluorescent technique. Evidence is presented that the tumour arose from the G cells.

In vitro bactericidal experiments were performed with combinations of recombinant lysostaphin and various antibiotics against five strains of Staphylococcus aureus, including clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Sublethal concentrations of lysostaphin combined with beta-lactam antibiotics (including benzylpenicillin, methicillin, and cephalosporin B), bacitracin, or polymyxin B, exhibited rapid synergistic bactericidal activity against all S. aureus strains tested. Lysostaphin activity was additive when combined with either vancomycin, gentamicin, tetracycline, or erythromycin. Synergistic combinations of recombinant lysostaphin and antibiotics might be applicable to controlling cutaneous staphylococcal infections and MRSA carriage.
In the paper 2 cases of non-traumatic spinal epidural haematomas are presented. The possible aetiological factors--vascular malformation, coagulopathy, anticoagulants and neoplasm are discussed. Neurological state, diagnostic procedure and treatment are described. Taking into account our experience we state that only early diagnosis and operation-surgical decompression of spinal cord, could result in complete recovery.
Stereotactic procedures using Leksell frame have been performed in that Department since 1995, and as jet 199 such operations were carried out. The most frequent complication after stereotaxic biopsies was intracerebral haemorrhage occurring in 0.6 to 7.2% of cases, according to various authors. In the presented material it occurred in 1.3% of biopsies. Besides biopsy, the stereotactic procedures (105 cases) were applied for reducing the size or removal of tumours, including multiple tumours in one or both hemispheres, in one-step operations. The histological diagnoses were based on the examination of HE-stained smears, immunocytochemical reactions and electron microscopic studies. The effectiveness of the operations was assessed in control examinations (CT). The greatest group of cases undergoing stereotaxic surgery were metastatic tumours (47 cases, 61.3%), primary brain tumours were treated in 22 cases (28.57%), meningiomas in 4 (5.19%), abscesses in 3 cases (3.89%). In patients with metastatic tumours improvement was obtained in 97% of cases. One patient died from disseminated malignancies with cardiorespiratory failure. In the remaining patients no worsening of the objective status was noted after stereotaxic surgery.

Two cases of skeleton malformations found by ultrasonic diagnostics are described. One was osteogenesis imperfecta and other achondroplasia. The possibility of malformation was postulated in 36th gestation week in the first case, and in 37th gestation week in the second. The authors discuss on malformations and their early diagnosis.
We describe the case of Julia Polak, an internationally known pathologist with an interest in primary pulmonary hypertension, a condition which she was subsequently diagnosed to have. This was successfully treated by heart/lung transplantation and she was then in the unique position to study and present her own pulmonary pathology. Professor Polak's case illustrates the difficulty in diagnosis, the frequent failure of medical treatment and an excellent outcome from heart/lung transplantation. Based on a presentation to a clinico-pathological conference at Hammersmith Hospital.
