Two groups of rats, Deprived and Satiated, were presented with food according to a fixed time 60-sec schedule. They were then injected with saline, 5, 10, and 15 mg/kg of chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride according to a Latin square design. During saline administration time spent visiting the food tray, time spent drinking, number of tray entries and the amount of water ingested were always greater in the Deprived than in the Satiated group; whereas the opposite was true for grooming. As chlordiazepoxide dose increased time spent visiting the food tray increased in both groups, but the effect was bigger in the Satiated than in the Deprived group. Drinking was not affected by the drug. Grooming and sniffing-rearing were reduced as the dose increased.

Twenty-six preadolescent children ( 16 boys and 10 girls) with minimal lesion nephrotic syndrome, who were either unresponsive to or dependent on corticosteroid therapy, were treated exclusively with chlorambucil. Evaluation of chlorambucil toxicity on the reproductive system was based on penile and testicular size, serum testosterone values, and sperm count. Nine boys had azoospermia and one had oligospermia. The other six, who received a mean cumulative dose of 10.2 mg/kg of chlorambucil, had a normal sperm count. However, we consider that the total safe dose of chlorambucil should not exceed 8.2 mg/kg, equivalent to six weeks treatment at a daily dose of 0.2 mg/kg. In the ten girls, pubertal development was normal; axillary and pubic hair, breast development, age at onset of menarche, and length of the menstrual cycle were all normal; however, the possibility of abnormalities in ovarian functions cannot be excluded.

Twenty cases of Turner's syndrome are presented. Ten cases showed cariotype XO, nine XO/XX and one case showed mosaicism with three cell lines one of which showed a ring chromosome (XO/XX/XXr). The clinical characteristics of syndrome and the associated malformations are appraised. Commentaries are made about ultimate height attained by this patients.
A study was carried out on the infectivity to sandflies of 16 dogs naturally parasitized by Leishmania infantum. All dogs were seropositive and the parasite had been isolated from all except one. They were divided into 3 clinical groups: 5 asymptomatic, 4 oligosymptomatic, and 7 polysymptomatic dogs. The dogs were exposed to female Phlebotomus perniciosus from a local colony and 7 d later the fed females were dissected in order to determine their rate of infection. There was wide variability of the percentage of fed and infected sandflies within each clinical group of dogs, with no significant difference between the 3 groups; the infectivity to sandflies was independent of the extent of symptoms in the dogs.

A descriptive study was made of 5 malignant lymphomas of the head and neck in children seen in 1986-1995. Male sex and age over 5 years predominated, and the mortality was high, particularly in cases of non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Diagnostic procedure, classification, and the current therapeutic protocol combining irradiation and multiple chemotherapy are reviewed.
