The effect of squatting on pelvic dimensions.

Lateral X-ray pelvimetry was performed on 63 women in the sitting and squatting positions on the 5th or 6th post-natal day to assess whether squatting has any effect on pelvic dimensions. Four assessors measured the inlet and outlet pelvic dimensions from 25 cases with good radiographic views in order to minimise observer bias. There was no statistically significant change in pelvic dimensions with squatting. Some possible explanations are discussed.

Nalbuphine hydrochloride (Nubain, DuPont) as premedication for radiological procedures.

Nalbuphine hydrochloride, a semi-synthetic agonist antagonist opioid, has been used in an intravenous injection of 20 mg followed by Diazemuls not less than five minutes later as a premedication in 462 patients undergoing a range of radiological procedures over a 2 year period. In all but two patients excellent sedation was obtained and there were no episodes of respiratory depression nor cardiovascular disturbances.

Pulse pressure wave analysis in the diagnosis of aorto-iliac disease.

The severity of aorto-iliac disease has been evaluated by direct pressure recording at the time of translumbar aortography. Pulse wave analysis confirmed the radiological appearance of 35 aorto-iliac segments and in one further segment, identified a normal haemodynamic pattern in the presence of marked degenerative disease. The method is safe, accurate, simple and relatively inexpensive.

An evaluation of the double contrast barium meal (DCBM) against endoscopy.

The diagnostic accuracy of the DCBM and of endoscopy were compared in 50 consecutive patients. Examinations were conducted in comparable circumstances, without any cross information. A percentage score method was evolved to allow a numerically more significant assessment. The potential accuracy of the DCBM was calculated to be 96% of that accorded to fibre-endoscopy.
