The recommendations about the contents of the treatment room are not intended to be complete or a mandatory survival package. Some practitioners manage comfortably with basic equipment such as an Air-viva, a standard doctor's bag and a handful of instruments. Others have very advanced rooms with equipment compatible with their special interests and geographical location. The medical equipment can be obtained from suppliers, and some equipment has been designed by doctors who market their own concepts. The efficiently managed treatment room should have an accurate record of procedures and lists of current stock (including expiry dates, service dates and faulty equipment). There is no doubt patients and therapists benefit from an efficient treatment room.

The author discusses the concerns and preoccupations of many men about the size of their penis and its possible impact on sexual adequacy. This attitude is related to the myth that a man's sexual performance depends on the size of his penis. Underlying anxiety about an undersized penis should be considered by general practitioners when men present for a premarital check up or with problems suggestive of real or imagined sexual inadequacy.

Used in a general sense, manipulation refers to the use of hands in a skillful manner for therapeutic techniques. Hence it can refer to any manual technique involving a passive movement be it specific manipulation, mobilisation, traction, soft tissue techniques or massage. In this paper manipulation refers to those manual techniques that apply a high velocity thrust at the end range of the joint; and mobilisation refers to a gentle repetitive rhythmic movement.
Many pitfalls await the general practitioner in managing the orthopaedic problems that arise in everyday practice, mostly as the result of trauma. Many injuries, such as fractures of the arm and hand, seem trivial but they can lead to long term disability. The authors present guidelines to help avoid these pitfalls.
