The comparative activity of pefloxacin, enoxacin, ciprofloxacin and 13 other antimicrobial agents against enteropathogenic microorganisms.

In this study, we compared the activity of pefloxacin, enoxacin and ciprofloxacin against 269 enteropathogenic strains (Campylobacter jejuni, enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae and Yersinia enterocolitica) with that of rosoxacin, flumequin, nifuroxazide, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, ampicillin, cefotaxime, tetracycline, amikacin, netilmicin, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim and co-trimoxazole. Pefloxacin, enoxacin and ciprofloxacin were always among the most active compounds. Furthermore, resistant strains or strains with elevated MIC values were not found. The MIC90 value for these three compounds was less than or equal to 0.25 mg/l, except for C. jejuni where it was 0.3 mg/l and 1.4 mg/l for pefloxacin and enoxacin, respectively.

[Fanconi's anemia: cytochemical and biochemical aspects (author's transl)].

Three cases of Fanconi's anemia are described in three siblings. Cytogenetic studies disclose increase of chromosomal structural anomalies (unclassifiable rearrangements, quadriradials, dicentrics) and suggest in the parents an increase in chromatid-type abnormalities. Further, the mother carries a 46,XX/47, XXX/48, XXXX mosaic and other kinds of aneuploidy. All enzymatic activities in erythrocytes (aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis) in the three children are high (even that of hexokinase), except pyruvate-kinase. These results are reminiscent of those found in other types of bone marrow dysfunctions. An uncomplete investigation of enzymes in leucocytes and platelets discloses activities within normal limits.

[Cerebral cysticercosis. Apropos of a case treated with praziquantel].

The authors report a case of cerebral cysticercosis in a 17 year-old adolescent. Partial seizures and moderate functional signs of intracranial hypertension were the presenting symptoms. Treatment with Praziquantel under corticosteroid therapy was successful with almost complete disappearance of radiologic abnormalities on the computerised tomographic examination performed 7 months after the end of treatment.
