Retromolar intubation.

PURPOSE: A simple technique of retromolar intubation does not interfere with dental occlusion and offers clear advantages in craniofacial, orthognathic, oncologic, and trauma surgery procedures. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty-nine subjects underwent different surgical procedures using this intubation technique. The possible surgical and anesthetic complications were analyzed. RESULTS: After the analysis of the studied variables and modes, we noticed that there was not a significant increase in complications or surgical time compared with other classic intubation methods. A retromolar bone graft could be obtained if necessary. CONCLUSION: This technique does not impede operating on the nasal pyramid and allows intraoperative assessment of the new surgical profile, while permitting establishment of normal occlusion.

A pseudo-tumour of the mandible in a haemophiliac patient. A case report.

The presence of a rare pseudo-tumour of the mandible in a haemophiliac justifies the presentation of this case in which the history and the clinical and radiological examinations were sufficient for a presumptive diagnosis. The authors present a case of pseudo-tumour of the mandible in a boy, with a history of haemophilia following a traumatic injury. They comment on the clinical and radiological aspects and surgical technique employed. The patient underwent the surgical treatment after the administration of 1000 U. of factor VIII. The whole pseudo-tumour was removed. The postoperative follow up one year after surgery was normal both clinically and radiologically.

Bony reconstruction in the orbital region.

The author discusses the various problems that can arise in the static or dynamic state in the eyeball, the eyelids, and the lacrymal canals--due to alterations of the bony orbit. Reconstruction techniques in the orbitomaxillomalar, orbitonasal, and frontoorbital regions are dealt with separately, with emphasis on the need for a global and primary solution to all the alterations. Particular attention is payed to some cases of fibrous dysplasia in the frontoorbital region that were treated with reimplantation of the same dysplasic bone after it was remodeled. This is a personal technique that is suggested as an alternative treatment for this kind of lesion.
