Nonrandom chromosome rearrangements in 27 cases of human myeloid leukemia.

The R-banding pattern of the chromosomes of 31 patients hospitalized in the Hematologic Clinic for myeloid leukemia were studied before chemotherapy. This analysis permitted identification of one unusual 3-chromosome rearrangement t(3;9;22) in addition to 25 classic forms of (22q-;9q+) translocation accompanied by the specific Ph' chromosome in chronic granulocytic leukemia patients, independent of the blastic course of the disease. During blastic crisis observed in 6 patients, extra 8 and 10 chromosomes, monosomy for chromosome 17, isochromosomes 17q, translocation (12q;13q), and additional Ph' were noted. The nonrandomness of these findings is determined from results published by other authors. Their significance for the cellular phenotype is presently unknown.

Some properties of monoclonal cryoglobulin M appearing in the course of malignant lymphoma with macroglobulinemia.

Monoclonal cryoglobulin IgM was separated from the serum of a patient with malignant lymphoma and macroglobulinemia. The purified cryoglobulin in immunoelectrophoresis formed the precipitin lines with anti-mu and anti-kappa serum and showed an abnormal electrophoretic mobility due to large aggregate formation. In comparison to normal IgM preparations a significantly lower content of hydroxyproline was found in the cryoglobulin studied. The possible role of hydroxyproline-containing peptides in the formation of the oligomeric structure of the IgM molecule is discussed.

High-molecular-weight hydroxyproline-protein in relation to immunoglobulins M (IgM) in human blood serum.

The content of the high-molecular-weight protein-bound hydroxyproline (Hyp) and IgM level in the sera of 30 healthy persons and 29 patients showing changes in gamma and/or beta globulin levels was determined. Statistically significant correlations between quantities of these components have been found. On the base of the present results as well as the results of previous studies authors suggest that the high-molecular-weight Hyp-protein contains immunoglobulin of the IgM class.
