[Late postpartum hemorrhage].

In the presented material the frequency of postpartum haemorrhage is 0.74%. In the study sixty-nine histologically confirmed cases were considered. At histological examination three main factors were found--subinvolution of the placental site, retained placental tissue, and inflammation, each of them responsible for about one third of all cases. The possible influence of such factors as parity, time of delivery, frequency of caesarian section, frequency of intrauterine exploration, manual extraction of the placenta, and induction and stimulation of the delivery on late postpartum haemorrhage is discussed.

[Actinomyces-like organisms in users of intrauterine contraception].

Actinomyces-like organisms (ALO) were found in 6.9% of cervical smears in 2133 IUD users. The chance of having co-infection with Trichomonas vaginalis was 2.7 times higher in women with ALO than in ALO negative women. The proportion of IUD users with ALO in cervical smears increased with the duration of the IUD use. A total of 108 IUD users with ALO were compared with the same number of IUD users without ALO in cervical smears. The women in the two groups were matched for the duration of the IUD use. During the IUD use the women with ALO had PID and vaginitis significantly more frequently than ALO negative women. No difference was found regarding the type of the IUD used in women with ALO in cervical smears compared to controls.

[Atypical hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma (author's transl)].

Data on 167 cases of atypical hyperplasia of the endometrium and 292 cases of adenocarcinoma of the endometrium from 1966 to 1977 are presented. In 41 cases of atypical hyperplasia (24.5%) also adenocarcinoma of the endometrium coexisted. The age distribution revealed that atypical hyperplasia was much frequent in the age group from 40--59, and adenocarcinoma of the endometrium from 59--69. Out of 61 cases of theca- and granulosa-cell tumors of the ovary, 13 cases (21.3%) related to atypical hyperplasia or adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. Out of 27 cases of the Stein-Leventhal syndrome, 3 cases were atypical hyperplasia, one case adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. The data presented suggest that atypical hyperplasia might be a stage in the development of endometrial carcinoma.

[Results of the treatment of endometrial carcinoma (author's transl)].

The increased incidence of endometrial carcinoma in Slovenia from 1961 to 1970 is presented, as well as the five-year survival of patients treated from 1946 to 1949 and from 1965 to 1972. A retrograde analysis is made of 288 patients, of the structure of their carcinomatous stages, their age, mode of treatment, and their survival in relation to the kind of treatment, the development of the cancer, its histological structure, and the magnitude of changes in regional lymph nodes. Novak's merit for the use of the so-called old Wertheim in the surgery of endometrial carcinoma is particularly pointed out.
