The relation between the height of adolescent haemophiliacs and their bleeding frequency has been studied. 45 haemophiliacs aged 10--19 years were divided into 3 groups: small, medium and tall, using a Height Standard Deviation Score. The average bleeding frequency per 100 days in the group of small haemophiliacs was 8.71 +/- SD 4.47, in the medium height group 10.18 +/- SD 6.71, while the tall individuals bled in average 15.97 +/- SD 3.15 every 100 days. There was no relationship between age and bleeding frequency.

A rare complication of massive osteolysis (disappearing bones, Gorham's disease)is presented--namely involvement and invasion of the thoracic duct by the angiomatous tissue spreading locally from involved upper thoracic vertebrae. The resultant chylothorax in our patient was investigated and the site of the lymphatic fistula established by lymphography. Operative obliteration of the chylous leak was successfully achieved and the patient has survived. A review of the literature shows this complication to have been fatal in six other cases, including Gorham's first patient.
Good results have been obtained from surgical operations for lymphoedema of the lower limbs using skin flaps with a blood supply to cover the muscles following reduction of swollen subcutaneous tissue. The Charles operation using free skin grafts for cover is reserved for tropical elephantiasis or patients with local skin in bad condition. A variety of other procedures of physiologic intent have given disappointing results and been abandoned. The results of 74 operations are reviewed with a view to improving still further the results. The mortality rate was nil and there were only minor complications.
