[Treatment of fractures of the mandibular condyle. Experiences at the Department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery at Toulon-La-Seyne/Mer].

The fractures of the gnathic condyle are constantly increasing due to the violent impact on the chine. The functional treatment is essential for good results whereas the restitution of a functional joint, i.e. teeth that engage into one another, is satisfactory for the patient as it can also justify a possible surgical reduction in such cases when significant shifts of fragments resulting from the fractures are present.

[Persistent fever of dental origin].

Based on 5 cases of unexplained prolonged fever, the authors stress the need to systematically look for a dental focus of infection. They discuss the difficulties in determining the site of the probable causal focus and stress the uncertain pathogenic relationship between the dental focus of infection and the fever. The extraction of infected teeth leads to a cure, however, the functional disadvantages of multiple extractions need to be carefully taken into account.

[Alveolar injuries in the upper incisor region in the child].

The authors studied a series of 50 children. They found that the sequelae can only be assessed at a late stage. The repair technique is always delicate and the damages awarded by the Courts are currently insufficient.

[Results of the evaluation of nasal respiration in maxillo-mandibular malocclusion in children. Apropos of 53 cases].

The authors measured nasal resistance in 53 children aged 5 to 13 years treated for bite disorders. Comparison of the results with a normal control group of children of the same age demonstrated that major nasal incompetence was 4 times more common in the group of children with orthodontic abnormalities. Nasal incompetence with permanent buccal respiration leads to disordered growth and modification of the morphogenesis of the naso-ethmoid-maxillary unit. Adaptation of deglutition and phonation to these new conditions produces modifications in the tension of the velo-pharyngo-facial and pharyngo-hyoglossal musculo-aponeurotic bands with a tendency to produce more vertical mandibular growth in children. The prevention of nasal incompetence in children and its treatment are important for coherent facial growth and guarantee the stability of the results of orthodontic treatment.

[Open bite in children. Contribution to its study].

A statistic and processing study of 40 cases of open bite deformities in infants is proposed from exact clinical examinations, and various teleradiographic analysis (Coutand, Delaire, Tweed, Sassouni). The statistic study set off the anatomical complexity of open bite deformities. The processing study, recording the concordance among various teleradiographic techniques, clear 4 associated dysmorphic groups susceptible to allow adjusted treatment planning.
