[A rare association of hamartomas of the kidney, renal insufficiency, Bourneville disease and arterial hypertension (author's transl)].

On the basis of a clinical case, the authors review the principal signs of Bourneville tuberose sclerosis and show the renal manifestations which may be encountered. The most common is the presence in both kidneys of tumours which are hamartomas. In addition, this patient suffered from hypertension and renal insufficiency. Their frequency and pathogenesis are discussed in the context of this disease.

Hamartoma↗

[Perineal urinary fistula after excision of the rectum 3 cases].

On the basis of three cases, the authors study the problem of perineal urinary fistula secondary to rectal surgery. They first note that little attention has been devoted to these lesions. The clinical and radiological features are described and analysed, in a pathological context. Treatment of these fistulae is difficult if a conservative approach is sought, and the best solution is perhaps nephrectomy or bypass by a Bricker operation carried out either initially or after an attempt at repair has failed.

[Xantho-granulomatous pyelonephritis. 3 cases (author's transl)].

Amongst infective lesions of the kidney, xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis has a place of its own. Whilst some consider it to be a distinct entity, others classify it within the broad group of the pyonephroses. From a clinical standpoint, lithiasis is common and urinary infection quasiconstant. Radiological appearances and the therapeutic approach differ according to whether it is, as is most common, a generalised form or the much rarer localised form. On the basis of 3 cases, the authors review the principal features of this curious condition.

[Spontaneous ureterocolic fistula. Concerning one case reviewed in the litterature (author's transl)].

Among the entero-urinary fistulae, the most frequent are those fistulae which unite the sigmoid colon and the bladder. Fistulae between the ureter and the colon are ecxeptional as only two spontaneous ureterocolic fistulae have been reported. With reference to one case, the authors review the different complementary examinations which enable making the diagnosis and discuss the therapeutic attitude, which differs depending on whether the kidney above the fistula is functional or not.

Colonic Diseases↗

[Water pollution and carcinogenic risks].

The main subjects emphasized in this contribution are the following ones: 1 - To investigate the presence of cancerogenic compounds derived directly or by transformations within trophic chains from domestic and industrial effluents. 2 - To evaluate potential cancerogenic health hazards due to polluted a quatic environement. The following substances might be regarded as to be cancerogenic: nitros amins, mycotoxins, complex organic and inorganic compounds and synthetic organicals. Based on epidemiological and epizoonic evidences, as well as human and experimental pathology, the relevant importance of particular group of compounds is evaluated. Presented evaluation is indicating that the water-borne cancerogenesis might be of an important significance. Therefore, the needs for essential increase in relevant research, implemented by advanced methods, which can cope with complexity of ecological processed, are stressed and further efforts recommended.

[Prevention of thrombo-embolic complications in urology using sub-cutaneous calcium heparinate (author's transl)].

Thrombo-embolic complications remain one of major preoccupations of surgery. As well as their treatment, prevention is of even greater importance. Following a discussion of the physiopathology of coagulation in the patient undergoing surgery, the authors study those factors peculiar to urology. Despite the risk of haemorrhage involved in such surgery, 158 patients underwent operation after having received anticoagulants in the form of sub-cutaneous calcium heparinate even before the procedure. The decrease in the number of thrombo-embolic complications appeared to confirm the effectiveness of this therapeutic measure.

Age Factors↗

Traumatic ruptures of the urethra in children.

Considering 4 cases of urethral injuries in male children, the authors' attitude regarding pelvic factors with urethral trauma is described. They insist on the importance of intravenous urography in fresh injuries, which is very helpful to diagnose the legend of the upper and lower urinary tract. Regarding dilatation treatment of urethral injuries, resection of the urethral stenosis, followed up by direct suture of the urethra is suggested as the best treatment.

Variations of origin of the renal artery: a review covering 403 aortographies.

With 403 aortographies made for various reasons, the authors study the level of origin of renal arteries in respect to the lumbar vertebrae. They compare the information supplied by arteriography with the findings of classical authors after dissection. When there are two kidneys, and one artery per kidney, these arteries originate at the level of the first two lumbar vertebrae, the right artery at the same level or above the left artery. Special cases are also considered, as for instance kidneys vascularized by several arteries, single kidneys and fused renal masses, amongst which the horseshoe kidney is the commonest. The interest of this study, in relation to both the removal or reparative renal surgery, and to renal transplantation is here emphasized.
