A 9-year-old mare exhibiting signs of colic late in pregnancy was presented. Uterine torsion was diagnosed and corrected by caesarean section. A live foal was delivered and the mare survived the surgical interference.
A temporary infertility was observed in flocks of ewes on a commercial property at Kojonup in Western Australia. During 1970 evidence of oestrogenic stimulation of the ewes was recorded. Two possible explanations of the cause of the condition are discussed.

The incidence and effect on reproduction of a constriction of the vagina was studied in 12 maiden merino flocks on 5 commercial properties in Western Australia. The overall incidence of the constriction was 11% with a range of from 2% to 27%. Ewes with a constriction of the vagina exhibited inferior reproductive capacity; fewer ewes lambed and of those that did fewer reared their lambs. A higher lamb mortality was recorded in lambs born to such ewes.
The authors studied the effects of dexamethasone, 0.3 mg/kg/hr administered intravenously beginning 1 hour before injury, in adult cats with brain edema secondary to cold-induced cortical lesions. Edema was quantitatively measured in cortex, gyral white matter, and central (deep) white matter at 3, 24, 48, and 72 hours, with and without dexamethasone, by determining specific gravity (density) of samples in a continuous gradient column. Cold-induced lesions resulted in edema, which was greatest in the white matter of the injured hemisphere but also present in the contralateral hemisphere. Except for a slight but significant increase in density (decreased edema) of cortex at 24 hours, dexamethasone therapy resulted in no reduction of cold-induced edema, and in some cases increased the edema.

A child is reported who developed a mycotic aneurysm of the cavernous portion of the internal carotid artery following staphylococcal cellulitis and septicemia. The unique feature of this case was the conspicuous absence of clinical or arteriographic evidence of carvernous sinus thrombosis. The pathogenesis of mycotic aneurysms is discussed.
