[Plasma insulin-binding capacity of diabetes mellitus patients with labile and stable courses].

Clinical picture of diabetes mellitus in the patients treated with insulin is characterized by a labile or stable course. It is supposed that of significance in the character of diabetes mellitus were antibodies formed in response to the exogenous insulin. Results of determination of the insulin-binding capacity of the blood plasma and of the antibody indices to insulin in the patients with a labile form of the disease antibodies with a low insulin-binding capacity circulated in the blood. Stable diabetes was characterized by the appearance in the blood of antibodies with a high insulin affinity, this being confirmed by an increase in the insulin-binding capacity of the blood plasma.

[Glomerular filtration and vascular permeability in diabetes mellitus].

Renal function (glomerular filtration) and vascular permeability were studied in 89 patients with diabetes mellitus by means of labeled renotropic compounds. There was a direct relationship between the reduced glomerular filtration, severity and duration of the disease, condition of compensation, age and body weight of diabetic patients, and the presence of diabetic vascular lesions. Vascular permeability proved to be increased in the form of diabetes mellitus and in patients with marked renal pathology.

[Effect of angioprotectors on the glomerular filtration rate and vascular permeability in diabetic angiopathies].

Renal function (glomerular filtration) and vascular permeability under the effect of an angioprotector were studied by means of labeled renotropic compounds in 55 patients with diabetic angiopathies. The patients were divided into 3 groups: the first group comprised 23 patients treated with anginin or prodectin alone; the second one--16 patients given dicinon or docsium, and the third one--16 patient who were given combined treatment. The best effect was noted in the latter group of patients.

[Dynamics of free, total and antibody-bound insulin in diabetes mellitus patients in the process of treatment with swine insulin].

Active free, total and antibody-bound insulin was studied in patients with diabetes mellitus treated with swine and bovine insulin. A tendency to increase in the blood serum of active free insulin was noted in the patients given swine insulin. Free insulin decreased in the patients treated with bovine insulin preparations, or its amount remained unchanged. No regular changes in the antibody-bound insulin were noted.

[Determination of the insulin antibody titre in severe form of diabetes mellitus].

The blood serum binding capacity was studied in 20 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus given no insulin and in 67 patients with a severe form of diabetes mellitus treated with insulin. There proved to be a reverse relationship between the duration of insulin therapy and the insulin antibody titre. There was also a reverse relationship between the patient's age and the serum insulin-binding capacity. The dose of insulin administered failed to influence the level of insulin antibodies circulating in the organism.

[Nature of changes in glucagon secretion in diabetes mellitus].

Radioimmunological method was applied to the study of glucagon content in patients with diabetes mellitus of different severity and duration of the disease. Glucagon level on fasting stomach in patients with diabetes at the state of compensation failed to differ from that in healthy persons. But in decomensated disease with the ketoacidosis phenomena there was a sharp elevation of glucagon content with restoration to the normal after the compensation was reached. In patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by diabetic retinopathy blood glucagon content failed to correlate with the incidence of retinopathy. However, there was a direct relationship between the incidence of retinopathy and the duration of the disease. In adipose diabetic patients glucagon content was elevated, but this rise was insignificant in comparison with healthy persons.
