[Immunostimulating activity of eubiotic bioflor in intestinal dysbacteriosis of various origin].

The data are reported on novel eubiotic biofor's effects on immune status of 213 patients with intestinal dysbacteriosis (39 surgical gastroenterological patients, 43 patients with diarrheal infections, 50 AIDS patients, 81 cancer patients exposed to radiation and chemotherapy). It was found that bioflor acts as an antidysbacteriosis drug and as an immunostimulator. It stimulates T-cell immunity, phagocytosis, B-cell immunity. Immunostimulating effect of bioflor depends on dysbacteriosis degree and is maximal at its first stages.

[The characteristics of the present-day clinical course of tuberculous meningitis].

Clinical patterns of tuberculous meningitis have been analyzed for 32 admissions to the bacterial meningitis department of the 2nd Moscow Infection Hospital in 1983-1991. Early diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis caused great difficulties because of rare cases of tuberculous history, atypical symptoms (an acute onset, in particular), an obscure meningeal syndrome, rare neurological symptoms, atypical liquor characteristics (frequent neutrophil pleocytosis, a small protein rise, normal glucose). Secondary bacterial meningitides presented most serious difficulties for differential diagnosis. So did cerebral abscesses and viral meningitis. Antituberculous therapy should be started at first sings of tuberculous nature of meningitis as the disease outcomes are determined to a large extent by early administration of proper treatment.

[The rapid diagnosis of salmonellosis by a determination of the antigen in the biosubstrates of patients using the coagglutination reaction].

The diagnostic potential of the coagglutination test was checked with the aim of improving the laboratory diagnosis of Salmonella infections by the detection of Salmonella specific antigen in different biological materials (feces, urine, saliva and immune complexes in blood sera). The study of all specimens resulted in the confirmation of the diagnosis in 78% of patients, often during the first days of the disease. The proportion of nonspecific reactions, as shown in the control groups of healthy donors and patients with dysentery and other acute enteric infections, did not exceed 5%.

[An outbreak of ornithosis at a textile factory].

For the first time an outbreak of ornithosis at a textile factory is described. The data on the specific epidemiological features of the outbreak, the specific clinical features of the disease, the results of catamnestic observations and the study of the titers of specific antibodies in the complement fixation test are presented.

[Antibodies to meningococcal lipopolysaccharide in different forms of meningococcal infection].

The results of the determination of antibodies to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in 270 patients with different forms of meningococcal infection and in 816 healthy persons by means of the passive hemagglutination test are presented. The role of antibodies to LPS in the formation of humoral immunity to meningococci in sick children and adults is shown. Different forms of meningococcal infection have been found to have their specific features of the accumulation of antibodies to LPS. As revealed, the time of the sanation of liquor and the level of antibodies to LPS are unrelated, which indicates that antibodies to LPS may play some role in the pathogenesis of meningococcal infection.

[Infection with involvement of the central nervous system].

A detailed clinical characterization of 124 cases of sepsis with involvement of the central nervous system is presented and basic clinicopathogenic variants of its affection in sepsis, problems of diagnosis, etiotropic and pathogenic therapy are discussed.

[Colitic variant of the gastrointestinal form of salmonellosis].

Of 3327 hospitalized patients with salmonellosis, a clinical picture of isolated distal colitis was noted in 142 (4.3%). Acute dysentery was diagnosed in them before the results of bacteriological stool examination were ready. In this variant of salmonellosis S. enteritidis and S. haifa were detected twice as more frequently than in the other variants. As compared to dysentery, the colitic variant of salmonellosis was characterized by more marked intoxication syndrome whereas stomach pains were less spasmodic, less frequently localized in the sigmoid colon; important symptoms for differential diagnosis like tenesmus, false rectal tenesmus, pains and spasms of the sigmoid colon were less frequently noted. Therefore this type of salmonellosis should be included in the clinical classification of salmonellosis of adults on the basis of an obvious clinical picture.

[Dynamics of the level of antibodies to protein antigens of the Meningococcus serogroup A in the serum of patients with meningococcal infection].

Two characteristics were determined in the sera of patients by means of radioimmunoassay (RIA) techniques: the RIA titer and the characteristic indicating the presence of highly avid antibodies in the serum. This investigation revealed that in the sera of patients with meningococcal infection of moderate severity the values of the RIA titer of IgM, IgG and IgA, as well as the values indicating the levels of highly avid IgM, IgG and IgA, increased as the infection progressed. In patients with the severe form of meningococcal infection the values of the RIA titer of IgA and IgA increased, while the RIA titer of IgG remained practically unchanged. No dynamic changes in the characteristics indicating the presence of highly avid antibodies in the serum were observed.
