Experiments with electric stimulation of the hypophyseal stalk and hippocampal formation revealed a great significance of the direct inhibitory control of the neurosecretory unit activity. Various types and mechanisms of primary inhibitory responses and postactivation [correction of pastactivafahory] inhibitory processes, as well as their role in the activity of neurosecretory cells and other neurons of the supraoptic area, are discussed.
A rare case is reported of retroperitoneal papillary adenocarcinoma in a 25-year-old female. Two recurrences were observed after surgical and radiation treatment. The tumour became inoperable after the second recurrence. The duration of the disease was somewhat more than 5 years. The attention is drawn to the difficulty of differential diagnosis with a metastasis. The young age and histological structure allow one to regard the tumour disembryogenetic and originating from the embryonal germs of urinary-genital organs or from the intestinal tube.
The impulse activity of the antidromically identified neurosecretory cells, orthodromically activated and non-responded neurons was recorded in the rat hypothalamic supraoptic area under the hypo-physeal stalk stimulation. Stimulation of the ventral hippocampus induced responses in 14, 59 and 46% of the corresponding cells, resp. The short-latency excitatory reactions were predominant. The greater importance of the hippocampal projections to the neurons of the perinuclear zone as compared with the supraoptic neurosecretory cells was revealed. Some aspects of the morphofunctional organisation of the supraoptic area were analysed. The convergence of the afferent inputs to the orthodromically activated neurons from the neurosecretory cells and the hippocampus and the peculiar organisation of the hippocampal projections to different cell groups of the perinuclear zone, were taken into consideration.
To explore potentialities of transvaginal sonography in the diagnosis of rectal tumors 33 female patients were examined. Transvaginal sonography was shown to be optimum for accurate local staging of rectal tumors. The overall staging accuracy for transvaginal sonography in this study was 94%. There were one understaged and one overstaged cases. Pathological pararectal lymph nodes were detected in 57.5% of the patients.
The orthodromically activated neurons (OAN) were recorded in the hypothalamic supraoptic area under the hypophysial stalk stimulation. They were distinguished by the pattern of the orthodromic activation and the recording sites. More than a half of OAN responded to the stimulation of ventral hippocampus and the responses were primary excitatory in all cases. The similarity in most OAN responses to the hippocampal and the hypophysial stalk stimulation was found. The peculiar influence of the hippocampus on OAN was analyzed, their location in the supraoptic nucleus or perinuclear zone and the supposed morphofunctional connections with the antidromically identified neurosecretory cells being taken into account.
Impulse activity of antidromically identified neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus, evoked by stimulation of the ventral hippocampus, was studied. Short-latency excitatory phasic reactions were revealed and no inhibitory responses were found. The existence of excitatory synaptic inputs was found from the hippocampus to other neurons of the supraoptic nucleus and perinuclear zone. These inputs were predominant as compared with analogous projections to neurosecretory cells. Peculiarities of limbic-hypothalamic relationships are discussed in connection with the afferent control of the neurosecretory cell activity.

Functional activity of hypothalamic structures was studied in endocrinological and electrophysiological experiments as well as in vitro studies. Functional changes of limbic-hypothalamic relations and control mechanisms of gonadotropin secretion under the effect of pineal polypeptides and in relation to lactation, were analysed.
The paper discusses the incidence and peculiarities of proliferative changes in cervical and uterine mucosa of women with a record of using polyethylene intrauterine contraceptives (Lipps' loop) under 12 years. Intrauterine contraception is not conducive to a rise in the frequency of either precancer or cancer of the uterine cervix; nor is it responsible for endometrial malignancies.

Risk for malignant transformation of the endometrium as a result of administration of intrauterine contraceptives for not more than 12 years was assessed by analysis of the mitotic cycle characteristics and sex chromatin level in the endometrium. No signs of pronounced proliferative processes or atypia were detected in the endometrium of females who took intrauterine contraceptives. However, a slight increase in metaphases and pathologic mitoses was observed in those women who had used contraceptives for a period longer than 7 years.

The object of the present study was the dynamics of infraslow omega-potentials and EEG interrelated activity modifications in young and adult (19-25 years old) sportsmen during strenuous endurance exercise on a cycle-ergometer. Correlation and coherence analysis revealed at the initial stage of muscle fatigue an increase of close relationship (synchronization and in phase readjustment) of different cortical areas potentials mainly between the prefrontal and precentral cortex. It is suggested that this phenomenon is an EEG reflection of voluntary increase of fatigue overcoming. It becomes more pronounced with age and improvement in professional skill. A reliable correlation between omega-potential dynamics and spatial EEG synchronization was found.
