[Effect of exposure to various concentrations of dalargin on immunocompetent cells in vitro and the feasibility of its use as an immunomodulator].

Effects of various concentrations of dalargin on quantitative parameters of peripheral blood E-rosette-forming cells were studied in vitro. The drug had a stimulating effect in concentrations 10(-2)-10(-4) and 10(-12)-10(-14) micrograms/ml and an inhibiting effect in concentrations 10(-6)-10(-10) micrograms/ml. The drug had no effect in concentrations 10(-5) and 10(-11) micrograms/ml. Biphasic nature of dalargin effect permit the authors recommend it as an immunomodulating agent. The findings helped develop an individualized approach to prescription of dalargin therapy with due consideration of the initial counts of immunocompetent cells.

[Assessment of the reparative capacity of the small intestine in celiac disease in children according to the DNA and RNA contents in enterocyte nuclei].

In 44 children suffering from celiac disease, cytophotometry was used to measure the content of DNA and RNA in enterocyte nuclei in the jejunum mucosa. The measurements were made after the diagnosis was established, 6-8 months and 1-1.5 years after administration of the agliadin diet. In celiac disease children, there was an increase of the content of DNA and RNA in enterocyte nuclei of the intestinal villi and cryptae and lack of gradient in the distribution of the amount of nucleic acids along the length of the villi, which characterized the hyper-regeneration type of small intestinal mucosa atrophy. The recovery of the crypta/villus gradient accompanied by the normalization of the content of nucleic acids, comparable with the analogous indicators of the unchanged mucosa of the small intestine, allows regarding the measurements of the content of DNA and RNA in the nuclei as an index of reparative capacity of enterocytes in children afflicted with celiac disease.

[A method for obtaining a long-lived intestinal tissue culture].

The interest in the studies of the intestines using the method of tissue organ culture has considerably grown in recent years. It can be explained by the great possibilities of obtaining unique data about the state of intestines in normal and pathological condition, e.g. malabsorption syndrome. The paper deals with the method modified by the authors to obtain long-living (24 hours) intestinal tissue organ culture. The investigations used bioptic sections which were obtained by jejunoscopy with spot biopsy of children suffering from intestinal malabsorption. The viability of the explants was proved by histological and histochemical tests. The promise held by the methods is emphasized.

[Morphological changes in the jejunal mucosa in vitamin D-resistant rickets].

Sixteen children with vitamin-D deficiency underwent jejunoscopy with spot jejunal biopsy. Morphologic evaluation of the biopsy specimens provided evidence for glycocalyx destruction and malabsorption syndrome. Hyperactivity of hydrolytic enzymes may be concerned with the adjustment to a disturbance of the calcium/phosphorus metabolism.

[The probiotic correction of microecological and immune disorders in gastroduodenal pathology in children].

The state of microbiocenosis was studied and the level of immunoglobulins was determined in the gastric juice and feces of children with chronic diseases of the digestive system. In 20% of patients an increase in the contamination of the gastric biotope with opportunistic microflora was established. The isolation rate of Helicobacter pylori was 56%. The detection of H. pylori was found to be accompanied by the aggravation of the form and course of gastritis. In cases of Helicobacter-associated pathology the deficiency of Lactobacillus sp. in the stomach was established, which was accompanied by their deficiency and absence in feces. The study also revealed a decrease in the population level of Bifidobacterium sp. with a simultaneous increase in the population of opportunistic enterobacteria and changes in the state of local immunity: the decreased level of SIgA in most samples and the decreased level of IgG in the presence of H. pylori. The correction of microecological and immune disturbances with probiotic preparations, containing bifidobacteria (bifidumbacterin-forte) and lactobacilli, yielded good results.
