[The value of plasma interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 in monitoring of patients with breast cancer].

The aim of this study was to determine IL-6 and IL-8 in plasma 29 patients with breast cancer in order to evaluate of interleukins in monitoring therapy. These patients were divided into 3 groups. I-control group comprised 25 healthy persons. Group II comprised 14 patients with recently recognized breast cancer. They underwent examination 5 times: before operation, during treatment and follow-up. Group III comprised 15 patients with recurrence cancer. These patients were examined before and after chemotherapy. Before treatment plasma concentration of the IL-6 were increased in 62% and IL-8 in 86% patients. The concentration of IL-6 and IL-8 decreased to normal limits in all patients with remission. In of patients with progressive disease the IL-6 and IL-8 levels decreased during therapy and next rise. The current observations demonstrate that measurements of IL-6 and IL-8 appear to be useful for the evaluation of therapy and monitoring of patients.

[Serum levels of interleukin-10 in patients with ovarian carcinoma in response to chemotherapy].

The levels of IL-10 and CA-125 were measured in 48 patients with ovarian carcinoma in different histological types and stages of clinical advance. The measurements were performed before surgical procedure and after chemotherapy. Pretreatment levels of IL-10 and CA-125 were significantly increased in carcinoma patients relatively to the control group. The frequency of higher levels and absolute value of IL-10 and CA-125 increased with the stage of disease. They decreased after chemotherapy in patients responding, while they remained elevated in non-responding to the treatment. The presents study shows, that IL-10 especially in the combination with CA-125 may be useful in the diagnosis and the monitoring of therapy results in patients with ovarian carcinoma.

[Assessment of changes in levels of interleukin 6 and C reactive protein in patients with breast tumors].

Serum concentrations of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were determined in 74 patients with various histological types and clinical stages of breast carcinoma, recurrent breast carcinoma and of benign breast tumor. The concentrations of IL-6 and CRP were significantly increased in carcinoma patients relative to control group and to benign breast tumor group. The frequency of higher levels and absolute value of IL-6 and CRP showed tendency to significant increase with the stage of disease. A positive correlation was observed between the concentrations of IL-6 and CRP. Our results suggest that of IL-6 assay may be useful in estimation of progress disease in patients with breast carcinoma.

[CA-125 antigen].

This review describes the physicochemical and biological properties of antigen CA125 and clinical utility of antigen in oncologic diagnostic. CA125 is the most reliable marker for ovarian cancer in clinical practice. Analysis of CA125 values performed by many authors revealed its highest concentrations in serous and endrometrioid histological type. Serial measurements of CA125 are useful in monitoring the response to chemotherapy and follow-up the early detection of recurrent disease of patients with ovarian cancer.

[Value of interleukin-8 determination in diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tumor].

The studies were performed in women with breast carcinoma, benign breast tumour and in a control group. Serum levels of IL-8 were determined 1-2 days before surgical procedure, according to the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Pretreatment levels of IL-8 were significantly increased in carcinoma patients in relation to the benign tumour and the control group. The frequency of increased results and absolute values of IL-8 levels showed tendency to significant increase with the stage of disease. These results suggested that IL-8 measurement may be useful in estimation of disease progression in women with breast carcinoma.
