[Experience with ambulatory functional x-ray studies of coal mine workers for the early detection of occupational lung diseases].

In 3,287 miners and other coal mine workers clinical and photofluorographic complex investigations of the respiratory system were carried out with the new method of photofluoropneumopolygraphy. Its use within the annual prophylactic investigation of the miners increases the effectiveness of the early detection of lung disease to 21.2%. The diagnostic accuracy of photofluorography for the evaluation of the adaptability of the organism in coal mine work and for respiratory dysadaptation disorder increases significantly. Photofluoropneumopolygraphy is recommended for the annual prophylactic lung investigation of coal miners.

[A comparative evaluation of lung ventilation in patients with dust-caused bronchitis and pneumoconiosis using roentgenpneumopolygraphy].

The results of roentgenpneumopolygraphy in 290 coal miners are analyzed. Localized diffuse ventilation disorders are detected, that are most pronounced in the upper and central lung regions. In all patients with dust bronchitis local and diffuse emphysematous ventilation disorder was detectable. In all patients with pneumoconiosis combined functional and morphologic changes were found. The use of x-ray function tests in coal miners facilitates an early detection of pathologic lung processes.

[Contrast media: present status and future of their production and use].

Analysis of the problems involving the design and application of Soviet-made radiocontrast agents showed that the synthesis of such drugs as Iodamid, Triombrast, Etiotrast, Bilimin, and Bilignost in this country made it possible to eliminate the arrears in this field. Together with the elaboration of topics concerning the pharmacokinetics and adverse effects of the above contrast agents, this helped to create a sound scientific base for further work on the unsolved problems, primarily, (1) to synthesize Soviet non-ionogenic radiocontrast agents; (2) to prepare and introduce Soviet ultrasonographic contrast agents into practice; (3) to prepare and introduce magnetic resonance contrast ones into practice; and (4) to introduce unique radiocontrast agents such as triombrast as oil emulsion, oleoferrotrast, fine-dispersion barium sulphate, and chromoetiotrast into clinical practice and to set up their production.

[Experiences with the use of x-ray pneumopolygraphy in the diagnosis of functional disorders of the respiratory organs in patients with infiltrative tuberculosis].

Lung function was investigated with roentgenpneumopolygraphy (RPPG) in 68 patients with infiltrating lung tuberculosis aged 18 to 70, revealing manifold functional disorders of the respiratory system. RPPG allowed to detect latent respiratory insufficiency in patients with normal respiratory parameters in form of regions with reduced ventilation. For defining localization, extent and nature of ventilatory disorder in severely affected patients zonopneumopolygraphy in lateral projection and prone position was used. For infiltrating tuberculosis with significantly ventilatory parameters the respiratory function, i.e. the action of respiratory auxiliary musculature is intensified.

[Myocardial reaction and lung ventilation response to inhalation of the gaseous hypoxic mixture GGS-10 in patients with rheumatoid arthritis].

The initial and end parts of the ventricular complex of the ECG and the roentgenopneumopolygraphy data were assayed in 22 patients with rheumatoid arthritis before and after inhalation of the gaseous hypoxic mixture (GGS-10) consisting of 90% of nitrogen and 10% of oxygen. After the inhalation of the mixture the area of the ST-T segment significantly increased as compared with the initial data, mainly in the AVR, V2 and V5 leads of the ECG. In addition, individual features of the changes in respiratory pulmonary function were discovered, which directly correlated with the disease stage.

[Cytogenetic effect of iodized radiocontrast media in human blood lymphocytes].

Triombrast (60%) iodamide-380, free verografin and verografin incorporated in liposomes in commonly used amounts produce no significant cytogenetic effect on peripheral blood lymphocytes. An increase in the concentration of these drugs results in a decrease in the lymphocytic mitotic index and structural chromosomal disorders which are marked at the most in a 10- and 20-fold increase in a clinical dose.

[A method and equipment for the intraosseous implantation of sarcoma 45 for x-ray research].

A procedure for sarcoma-45 suspension implantation into bone to study osteogenic tumors by X-ray and morphologic means is suggested. Isolation of growing tumors without dissemination to adjacent soft tissues is assured in 94.3% of cases if trepanation hole area is reliably sealed. Also, a special device for homogenizing tumor tissue and a trepanation needle are suggested.

Animals

[Correlation of microangiographic and thermographic signs in sarcoma 45].

Thermographic and microangiographic studies on transplantable sarcoma 45 in subcutaneous and intramuscular implantation of tumor cells showed the appearance of "hot" and "cold" foci in the zone of tumor development. In subcutaneous implantation of sarcoma 45 "hot" foci were observed in the 1st week only, then the focal temperature was decreased and a tumor zone acquired the properties of a "cold" focus. In intramuscular tumor implantation the symptom of a "hot" focus was noted during 3 weeks. Angiography showed that the state of the vascular network of a tumor, rearrangement of microcirculation in external and central tumor zones were in some correlation to a site of tumor inoculation. Tumors of the subcutaneous fat were characterized by rapid avascularization with the formation of the "cold" focus symptom. A high degree of tumor vascularization corresponded to "hot" zones, hypovascular tumors--to "cold" zones. "Hot" zones could develop at the expense of arteriovenous anastomoses discharging hot arterial blood into the venous tumor bed passing the capillaries. Direct correlation was established between the state of blood circulation and a thermographic picture.

Animals

[Microcirculation of tumors and adjacent tissues during combined exposure to metronidazole and hyperthermia].

The results of the study have shown that the proposed temperature-exposure regimen (42-43 degrees C for 30 min.) 30-40 min after metronidazole administration (1 mg per 1 g of the body mass of an animal) influences the vascularization of both normal tissues of the hip and tumors though to a lesser degree. It manifests itself in a elevation of the tone resulting in hypovascularization and a decrease in the total diameter of the vessels. This reaction is more pronounced in the first hours of the first day. The vascular system of ovarian adenocarcinoma turned out to be more reactive as compared to sarcoma 45.

Adenocarcinoma

[Color decoding of roentgenograms and scintigrams of malignant lung neoplasms].

The authors have shown that the color decoding of x-ray-radioisotope information on 50 lung cancer patients (150 radiograms and 80 scannograms) raised the diagnostic efficacy. It opens up opportunities for the objective quantitative processing of results by performing histographic analysis of similar optical density zones. These data are impossible to obtain by using common methods of visual and roentgenogrammetric analysis. TV decoders of UAR-1 type are recommended for clinical practice.

[Microangiographic signs of blood vessel rearrangement during tumor growth].

In the experiment performed in mice with a subcutaneously implanted sarcoma-37 on the chin, rearrangement of the blood vessels has been followed by means of micro-roentgenography. In the process of the implanted tumour growth, the blood vessels undergo a profound functional-anatomical rearrangement, which develops, beginning from the first hours, in two ways: at the expense of the peripheral vessels rearrangement in the recepient and at the expense of real tumorous vessels development ensuaring vascular trophic of the tumour.
