On the grounds of experimental investigations and study of immunity in patients with atherosclerosis data evident of existence of two types of the disease were obtained. The first type, caused exceptionally by disorders of lipid metabolism, develops in young people. The second, related mainly to lesions of vascular wall due to immune disorders, occurs in the elderly.

An evaluation was done of effectiveness of diprospane (prolonged action glucocorticosteroid) in rheumatoid arthritis. There have been studied parameters characterizing the articular syndrome, laboratory values during the course of complex therapy that incorporated intraarthrous administration of diprospane and a course of laser irradiation of the joints against a background of intake of non-steroid antiinflammatory preparations and basis therapy with methotrexate. Topical therapy incorporated into the complex of therapeutic measures applied in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was found to be associated with most stable and pronounced effect, especially in the arthrous form of the malady. Combined use of intraarthrous administration of diprospane and a course of laser therapy permits achieving a favourable effect after a single administration of this drug preparation.

13 patients with generalized hyperergic vasculitides and 20 patients with rheumatism were examined for antibodies against antigens of viruses of hepatitis B and C. In the majority of patients with vasculitides and almost half of those with rheumatism, there have been revealed antibodies against antigens of hepatitis B or C. These findings allow some judgement about importance of viral infection in the development of autoimmune and infectious and allergic diseases, which observation may be related to a significant depression of the suppressor function of T-lymphocytes by viral infection.
