[Radiotelemetric studies of heart rate in cows].

The use of radiotelemetric apparatuses made it possible to record the heart rhythm through registering the R peak with cows during the puerperal period. Studied were a total of 212 cows. A group of 102 of them had no complications in the puerperium and served as controls. The remaining 110 were with complications during this period, and formed two test groups (with and without the use of electrostimulation). It was found that the heart pulsation rate was highest on the day of calving (87, on an average). It gradually dropped during the following days. On the first and second day after parturition the cows of the test groups showed 3 to 7 contractions more. Highest was the rate of pulsations on the fourth day, the difference between the controls and the cows with complications (without electrostimulation) rising by 11 contractions, on an average,--and the cows with complications (with electrostimulation of the uterus) rising by 6-7 contractions.

[Radiotelemetric method of the early diagnosis of puerperal uterine inflammation].

A description is given of a method for the early diagnosis of the postpartal inflammations of the uterus. The method is based on the postpartal sensitivity of the uterus to oxytocin, which is registered via the method of radio telemetry. The sensitivity of the method suggested is recorded in two positive degrees in dependence on the individual features of the animal body, the season, etc. In cows with no predisposition to postpartum metritis there are sporadic, irregular contractions.

[Radiotelemetric studies of uterine motility in cows with acute endometritis].

Thirty two cows with postpartum complication were radiotelemetrically studied to register uterine motility. The results were compared with those of the control group of 42 cows with normal calving and no complications. Enhanced uterine reactivity to oxytocin and other agents was established in all cows with complications in the postpartum period. It is manifested in the spring also by intensified motor activity of the uterus. Motor activity of the uterus is hardly registered during to summer months in cows with normal peurperium and complications following day 2 of calving. No essential difference was found in estradiol-17 beta content in the blood plasma of both groups of cows. Body temperature rises in cows with postpartum complications.

[Radiotelemetric studies of uterine motility in cows with placental retention].

Uterine motility of 21 cows with retention of the placenta from delivery to 120 D was studied by the radiotelemetric method. Higher uterine motility until 48 D was established in cows with retention of the placenta as compared to cows with a normal third stage of delivery. The mean values of total uterine motility frequency and amplitude of contractions are presented in tables and graphs. Estradiol 17-beta content in cow blood plasma until the 40 D post delivery was higher in cows with retention of the placenta. Bending and folding of uterine horns proved to be the reason for retention of the placenta in 6 cows.

[Radiotelemetric studies on uterine motility in cows during the 3d period of labor and the early puerperal period].

The outside appearance of a one-channel radiotelemetric system is presented and a short description of supplementary devices for the study of uterine motility in cows is given. The radiotube consisting of an inductive converter and a two-transistor sound generator is described in short. The tube is placed directly in the uterine cavity through the cervical canal. The numerical values of contractile uterine activity in hours post delivery up to the 120 hour are presented in one table and a graph. Original registering of normal uterine activity and of reflectory inhibition of the same are shown as well as registerings of other functions of the organism through the uterus such as urination, defecation, lowing and belching. The contractile activity of the uterus during a normal course of the third stage of labour and the early puerperium is most strongly expressed during the first day post calving. The duration of this activity in the following days is directly dependent on the individual characteristics of the organism.

[Effect of mammary gland diseases, the act of sucking and machine milking on utering motility in cows during the early puerperal period. I].

The effect of some mammary gland diseases, of the act of sucking and of machine milking on spontaneous uterine activity was studied in cows during their early puerperal period by use of the radiotelemetric method. It was established that clinical catarrhal and suppurating mastitis block spontaneous uterine activity. However, the uterus preserves its reactivity to oxytocin which is confirmed by injection of the hormone. The act of sucking and machine milking have a positive effect on spontaneous uterine activity up to the 5--7 days following calving. Uterine contractions are registered after reflectory influences too. The number and amplitude of uterine contractions 48 h after calving are closely correlated with the predisposition of uterine musculature to post calving complications.

[Pressure transducer for radiotelemetric studies].

Designed has been a combined transformer for pressure on the principle of the photoelectric effect. It records directly the pressure produced within the system and outside through the arrow mechanism of the manometer for blood pressure, and transforms the mechanical fluctuations of the membrane into electric ones. Used has been a blood presser manometer additionally supplied with a photoelement, a tiny electric bulb, and a metal lamelle. The photoelement is connected into the electric scheme of a PC-generator of a 1600-2000 Hz frequency, and the latter produces frequency that supplies the carrying frequency of the radiotransmitter. Shown are original records made at various points of the dorsal sac of the rumen of a ewe as well as of the carotic artery of a cow.

[Radiotelemetric method of studying ruminal movements in cows].

A description is given of a monochannel radiotelemetric system primarily designed to study the motility of the rumen but also adapted for use in studying the bioelectric activity of the heart, uterus, and other viscera. The system consists of an emitting part and a receiving-registering part. The former is composed of an emitting part and a receiving-registering part. The former is composed of a transformer (drawbar-sensing mechanism), an amplifier of biopotentials, a generator, and an ultra-short-wave transmitter. The registering mechanism consists of a receiver, a decoder, and a writing device. The apparatus provides a stable transmission of physiologic information at a distance of up to 500 meters. Presented are graphic recordings of the motility of the dorsal sac of the rumen of clinically normal cows supplied with chronic fistulae of the rumen as well as of cows having no fistulae, in a varying physiologic status.
