[Intracranial ependymomas. Study of 81 cases and comparison with the literature].

For ten-years of period, between 1973-1982, 81 cases with intracranial ependymoma have been operated in H.U.T.F. Neurosurgery Department. Supratentorial localisation have been found in 24 cases (30%), and infratentorial in 57 (70%). 80% of the patients in supratentorial group and 91% in infratentorial group were under the age 20. In supratentorial group 79% were in paraventricular localisation, and 21% were intraventricular. In infratentorial group 70% of the cases were localised within the IV. ventricle, 20% in province of the tentorial roof, 5% in the lateral recessus and 5% into cerebellum. The 40 patients who were followed up were rated according to the localisation and the grades of the tumors, the type of the surgical intervention and chemotherapy with respect to the postoperative survival. As a result only the total resection of the tumor was found to be significant.

[Papilloma of the choroid plexus of the 3d ventricle. Report of a case and review of the literature].

It's rare for CPP to fill the III ventricule. Up to date, 24 cases surgically removed have been reported. In this report, we present a 1,5 year old boy who administered because of severe cachexia and reactive coma. Ct scan revealed dilatation in lateral ventricles and a mass totally filling the III ventricle. The mass has been totally excised through foramen Monro by right frontoparietal craniotomy and transcortical transventricular surgical approach. While a post-operative recovery was being observed, the patient died in the 30 the day because of bronchopneumonia. The treatment of III ventricle CPP as all the other CPP, must be total resection. For this reason, preoperative CT scan carries a great value about giving information of the nature of the tumor.

Cerebral Ventricle Neoplasms↗

Susceptibility-based MRI contrast of the CSF by intravascular superparamagnetic nanoparticles.

Endorem, a suspension of superparamagnetic iron oxide dextran nanoparticles (NP), have been injected intravenously to healthy anesthetized rats for the purpose of contrast enhancement of brain in gradient-echo imaging at 200 MHz. Not only gray and white matter but also particular regions of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were contrasted in sagittal and transverse images, although samples of this fluid did not contain NP. The selected contrast in the CSF would result form the ability of dense vascular beds containing highly magnetized particles to induce a remote susceptibility effect far beyond the vascular walls into a large fraction of extravascular water.
