The authors summarized the technical problems of the Wisdom teeth extraction. They advised to send the patients from the basic dental service to the aMaxillofacial Surgery Departments if the position of tooth is unfavourable. They reported a complicated case of the third molar extraction.
This article reports the modification of laterosubmental tracheal intubation in single-step surgery of panfacial fractures or osteotomies. In the modified method--after the submental transversal midline skin incision--the tube is guided through a submental tunnel to the oral floor, just behind to caruncula sublingualis.
True malignant mixed tumor (carcinosarcoma) is a rare salivary gland tumor. In contrast to malignant mixed tumor, which means carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma in true malignant mixed tumor both carcinomatous and sarcomatous features are present in the same tumor. This report presents the case of a 43 year old man with a carcinosarcoma of the right parotid gland. Carcinomatous component was high grade ductal carcinoma. Mesenchymal component showed the features of giant cell type malignant fibrous histiocytoma. The diagnosis was supported by positive staining for cytokeratin in the carcinomatous part and positive vimentin, alpha-1-antitrypsin and CD 68 staining in the sarcomatous part of the tumor. Ultrastructural investigation confirmed the diagnosis. Multinucleated osteoclast type giant cells are probably of reactive origin.
The author has proved by the examination of the lateral x-ray images of hundred patients with progenia that with 64% of the patients the front part of the maxilla alveolaris extension was mildly retarded in growth. The deviation can be measured by means of the Sella-Nasion-A angles used in the evaluation of the x-ray image. Such anomaly can be ceased by a simple autotransplantation suggested by the author, simultaneously with the surgical correction of the progenia. Hereby the aesthetic effect will be improved, more pleasant harmonic features can be formed.
The soft tissue profile changes entailed by the operation were examined on teleroentgen image taken before and after operation in case of fifty patients with progenia and prognatism. The connection between the moving of the body and soft tissue of oral parts was determined and on basis thereof, the operational prognostics of the soft tissue was elaborated. The operational prognostics based on observations is shown on the photographical and x-ray documentation of one of the author's patients.
Morphological and functional symptoms of various varients of the open bite are reported on. The orthodontic treatment possibilities and, then, the surgical methods applicable after termination of jaw bone development are summarized. The functional disturbances have to be considered in case of both the conservative and the surgical treatment. A patient treated with a fixed device and an operated patient are presented.
The establishment of the Hungarian cranio-facial surgical team is reported on and the activity sphere of this special field is described. The consequences of early ossification of the cranial sutures as well as the therapeutical possibilities are dealt with. Brief review is given on the development of cranio-facial surgery. The age, diagnosis and interventions performed with the patients in 1987 are summarized in a table.
Of 18 operations 16 bone implantations were successful. The mean age of the patients was 13 years. Also the operational technique employed by the authors is described. For bone implantation autotransplantatum taken from the crista iliaca was employed.
Percentage distribution of fractures: middle face fracture 21.99%, mandibula fracture 75.70%, combined facial skull fracture 2.31%. Numerical distribution according to etiology of the facial skull fractures: violence 135, traffic accident 48, falling-slipping 39, sport casualty 20, industrial accident 17.

Repeated surgical and orthodontic correction of open bite associated with a substantial narrowing of the upper dental arch has been reported. Followup examination 4 years after the operation confirmed the success of the treatment.
